"Our Golden Days" has heightened immersion by foreshadowing intense conflicts and changes in family relationships.
The 2nd episode of the KBS 2TV weekend drama "Our Golden Days" (directed by Kim Hyung-seok, written by So Hyun-gyeong), broadcast on the 10th, depicted the family's shock upon Lee Sang-cheol's (played by Cheon Ho-jin) job cancellation and his son Lee Ji-hyeok's (played by Jung Il-boo) declaration of independence.
In yesterday's broadcast, Ji-hyeok reiterated his determination for independence during a family meal, but showed a seemingly retreating attitude during a conversation with his strongly opposing father Sang-cheol. However, this was merely a lack of intention to persuade Sang-cheol, as Ji-hyeok's resolve remained firm. The gap between the two individuals with vastly different values foreshadowed upcoming significant conflicts, providing a sense of tension before the storm.
On the other hand, the warm daily life of the Eun-oh family added warmth to the drama. The daughter helping her mother Jung Soon-hee (played by Kim Jung-young) with her store and the mother's tender care for her daughter who works late conveyed a serene family love. Meanwhile, Eun-oh fortuitously helped Go Sung-hee (played by Lee Tae-ran), who collapsed from low blood sugar at a subway station, forming a subtle first connection. Given the intrigue surrounding Go Sung-hee's identity as someone who had secretly observed Eun-oh, this hinted at a narrative beyond mere coincidence.
Meanwhile, Park Sung-jae (played by Yoon Hyun-min) wrestled with whether to inform Eun-oh about Ji-hyeok's breakup and ultimately revealed the truth to keep his promise to her that he would let her know if Ji-hyeok broke up. Eun-oh decided to confess to Ji-hyeok, but the conversation escalated into an argument as she faced his attitude of not seeing her as a woman.
Sang-cheol fell into confusion when the offer for the advisory position at Seongil Textile was canceled. With Chairman Choi's illness causing the position to be nullified, Seongil Textile attempted to smooth over the situation by sending a large amount of consolation money instead of an apology. The family, upon learning this fact, was engulfed in shock, and Sang-cheol could not contain his anger, further intensifying the drama's tension.
Having overheard this situation, Ji-hyeok and Subin (played by Shin Soo-hyun) learned about their father's job cancellation, and Ji-hyeok fell into confusion, recalling the wounds he had received from Sang-cheol in the past. However, unable to ignore his responsibility as the eldest son, he ultimately canceled the contract for his apartment to pursue independence.
Towards the end of the broadcast, Eun-oh mustered the courage to earnestly confess her feelings to Ji-hyeok. However, he coldly rejected her heartfelt confession with the words, "You don't suit me," amplifying curiosity about the next story with this unfortunate rejection.
"Our Golden Days" rapidly swept through the emotional changes and major events of the protagonists within just two episodes, showcasing high immersion and delicate direction right from the early stages. As significant conflicts and character entanglements begin, anticipation for the upcoming narrative is rising.
