Actress Jang Shin-young shared her poignant memory of earning '30,000 won' at the beginning of her career and revealed her honest journey to becoming the actress she is today.
On the broadcast of KBS2TV "Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant" aired on the 8th, Jang Shin-young delivered laughter and emotion, recalling her childhood as a daughter of a grape orchard, her acceptance into an acting school, her debut process, and her memories with her mother.
Jang Shin-young recalled, "I used to be a daughter of a grape orchard," reflecting on her ordinary school days, while her mother proudly noted, "The neighbors would say when they saw Shin-young, 'We should make her Miss Korea when she grows up.'" The cast was in awe as the past photos of Jang Shin-young were revealed, exclaiming, "She has breathtaking beauty that turns everything upside down" and "An appearance that the world can't ignore."
She reminisced, "When I was admitted to high school, I received a recommendation to the acting school, and I ended up entering the theater and film department." She recalled, "My parents said, 'Who do you think you are to act?' but unexpectedly, I got accepted to the acting school." Her mother laughingly remembered, "I heard the news of her acceptance while in the grape orchard, and I almost went crazy with joy."
The footage revealed was from the national Chunhyang beauty contest, where Jang Shin-young won as "Chunhyang Hyun," opening the door to her entry into the entertainment industry. She stated that after that, auditions, CFs, and offers to appear in dramas came pouring in. Her mother reddened with tears as she said, "I saw my daughter on TV and thought, 'Is that really my daughter?'"
Especially, an episode that the mother and daughter had cherished for a long time was the "30,000 won incident". Jang Shin-young said, "During my early debut, I appeared in a minor role in 'TV has love,' and the amount I received as my first payment was 30,000 won." Her mother reflected, "She came back so happy, but she couldn't get off at Jeonju Station, and in the end, her father had to drive to pick her up in the early morning," adding, "I was proud yet felt pity for my daughter who returned home looking exhausted in the early dawn."
Jang Shin-young quipped with a bittersweet joke, "I guess I should have quit then," while her mother conveyed her heartfelt feelings, noting, "You worked so hard for our family, and I never imagined that my introverted child would become an actress." Jang Shin-young confessed sincerely, "I didn't imagine it either. There were moments I wanted to quit, but work kept coming in, and people kept seeking me out, leading me here." One participant noted, "The world did not leave her alone," complimenting her beauty and talent once more, adding warmth to the atmosphere.
