On the show 'My Precious Child,' a fifth-grade student named Geumjok demonstrated a disrespectful attitude toward his Chinese mother, shocking everyone.
In the episode aired on the 8th on Channel A's 'Recent Parenting - My Precious Child,' a story about a late-born fifth-grade son who disrespects his mother was revealed, and a couple raising a late-born fifth-grade son appeared in the studio.
Geumjok's family was a multicultural family with a Korean father and a Chinese mother. The mother shared her concerns, stating, "My son rejects me," revealing that Geumjok said things like, "I wish mom would disappear," and "I might hit mom."
Additionally, the mother mentioned, "If something bad happens among friends, he explodes at me. People around him call him a good boy," while the father said, "He doesn't act that way with me; it's particularly directed at my wife."
In their daily life, Geumjok not only refused to talk to his mother but also called his father to express his demands while ignoring his mother beside him. Geumjok went to the store with his mother, but when she spoke, he seemed to want distance, being self-conscious about his surroundings. He said, "Can we just separate for now and meet later? It's a bit awkward to walk around with my mom," adding, "Mom's voice is louder than singing. Everyone is looking at us," which left his mother feeling hurt.
Ultimately, Geumjok separated from his mother, called his father, and grumbled, "No, I'm embarrassed," "I want to get out quickly. I don't want to be here. I'm really embarrassed in front of people."
In fact, Geumjok had been ignoring and feeling embarrassed by his mother since he turned 7. The mother said, "When I meet other moms at kindergarten, he pulls my hand away and goes to a place where there are no people. Geumjok says, 'I'm embarrassed, mom. You're Chinese. You came from China. You can't do anything. You don't have money.'"
Dr. Oh Eun-young analyzed, "It's not that he dislikes his mom's way of speaking; it seems like certain situations annoy him. It seems he feels uncomfortable and wants to distance himself because he feels the eyes of those around him. He thinks his mom doesn't understand him. He realizes that speaking to her doesn't help after saying it 100 times, so he thinks the only person he can talk to is his dad. It might not just be a language issue but a communication problem."
Meanwhile, Geumjok secretly hid his mother's mobile phone and laughed. While his mother searched for the missing phone, Geumjok changed its location, pretending not to know and saying, "Aren't you hiding it somewhere again?"
When his mother discovered the phone he hid, Geumjok urgently shouted, "I don't want to!" He then forcefully grabbed his mother's hand, attempting to snatch it away, and demand an apology from her as if he were the victim.
Furthermore, Geumjok shocked everyone by mocking his mother, saying, "Mom is the most abnormal one," ridiculing her for not being good at Korean. Ignoring his mother's anger, he added, "Oh my, can't you even handle that as an adult?" and "You didn't even go to college," further delivering hurtful remarks. Dr. Oh Eun-young pointed out, "He is intentionally hurting her on purpose. Geumjok does not see his mother as a parent to guide and discipline him."
Additionally, he remarked, "He doesn't want to listen to his mother; he doesn't want to follow her. The reason is that he seems to think his mom is not qualified to teach him—not even that level. But because she keeps saying things to him, he expresses, 'Mom is hindering me; she's bothering me with this.' He makes hurtful comments to intentionally hurt her. It's an emotional counterattack, which is a significant problem," expressing his concerns.
