Dr. Oh Eun-young from 'My Precious Child' pointed out the behavior of Geumjok's mother.
The story of a 'fifth-grade late-born son who ignores his mother's existence' was depicted on the 8th episode of the channel A program 'Recently Parenting - My Precious Child.'
On that day, Geumjok displayed signs of ignoring his Chinese mother out of embarrassment. He not only refused to talk but also shocked everyone with harsh words that crossed the line during arguments with his mother.
Geumjok distanced himself from his mother at the mart, quickly calling his father and saying, "I'm so embarrassed," "I want to go out quickly. I don't want to be here. I'm really embarrassed in front of people." His mother revealed her disappointment by saying, "Geumjok says, 'I'm embarrassed by mom. Mom is Chinese. She came from China. Mom can't do anything. She doesn't have any money.'"
Furthermore, Geumjok shocked everyone by mocking his mother during an argument, saying, "Mom is the most abnormal one," as she struggles with the Korean language. Ignoring his mother's anger, he said, "Oh, can't you even do that as an adult?" and "You didn't even graduate from college," which left everyone astonished. Dr. Oh Eun-young analyzed that "Geumjok is intentionally trying to hurt his mother" and "he does not see her as a guiding or disciplining parent."
Not only Geumjok but also problematic behaviors were found in his mother. The excessive obsession with her child was evident. The mother, with a personality that can't tolerate even the slightest mistake, scolded rather than praised Geumjok for scoring 90 out of 100.
Dr. Oh Eun-young pointed out, "From what I've observed, the mother is someone who has many demands but no acceptance. From the child's perspective, this is excessive interference, meddling, and nagging."
Also, the mother displayed excessive attachment by chasing after her son who was doing his homework. When she got angry because her son secretly played mobile games, she nagged him, saying, "Keep your promise." The mother and son then collided head-on once again. Later, the mother even had an argument with the father, making sure Geumjok could hear it from the room.
In response, Dr. Oh Eun-young said, "I don't think the mother will change easily. I'm sorry. That's why I'm worried now. I'm very concerned."
Dr. Oh Eun-young explained, "The mother will not change unless she deeply understands herself. It seems she thinks 'excessive control' is love. Perhaps even now, in her heart, she thinks, 'I'm not being excessively controlling; I'm just telling the child what's wrong.'"
The mother acknowledged, "Since he is my son, I have the authority to control him," and Dr. Oh Eun-young expressed concern, saying, "That thought is frightening. In the end, nothing just passes by. If the child utters any words, if the mother thinks it's not right, she intervenes immediately to correct it, thinking, 'If I don't do this, I'm not loving the child, I'm being irresponsible.'"
She added, "From the child's perspective, it feels as though they are being consumed by the mother. There arises a fear of losing one's autonomy and self-direction. This is why Geumjok deliberately evaluates and neglects his mother."
In particular, Dr. Oh Eun-young emphasized, "Children perceive it as an attack. Growing up like this, it becomes a fearful experience for them to find someone they love. The mother must deeply realize this and make a painful effort to change."
Meanwhile, Geumjok expressed a sentiment of sorrow regarding ignoring his mother's words, saying, "I often think my mom doesn't like me. Even if my mom doesn't love me, I love my mom. I think mom doesn't understand my feelings." He added his wish, saying, "I want to see my mom smile at least once," causing his mother to tear up in remorse.
