(Following interview 1) Director Lee Sang-geun of 'Pretty Crazy' talked about his chemistry with Ahn Bo-hyun.
On the 8th, an interview with Director Lee Sang-geun regarding the movie 'Pretty Crazy' (Director Lee Sang-geun, distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Oeyunaekang) was held in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.
'Pretty Crazy' is a devilish comedy that details the struggles of Gil-gu (Ahn Bo-hyun), a young unemployed man who gets caught up in a bizarre part-time job monitoring Seon-ji (Lim Yoon-a), who wakes up as a devil every dawn.
'Pretty Crazy,' praised for its unique premise of the meeting between a devil and a young unemployed man, is directed by Lee Sang-geun, who set the record for 9.42 million admissions with 'Exit.' This second work after his commercial film debut is awaited by audiences as Lee's first new film in six years, and it was considered as a potential debut work by Lee.
On this day, the director noted the commonalities he found with Ahn Bo-hyun, saying, "When I first learned about MBTI, I found out that Yoon-a was quite devoted to it at that time. Originally, I thought I wouldn't do it to the end and won't be swayed by trends, but then I tried it secretly at home. When I talked with younger friends about MBTI, we had a good connection. While chatting with Bo-hyun, I realized our MBTI types were the same. So, I remarked that he has some similarities with me."
He continued, "In fact, when I first saw him, I thought Ahn Bo-hyun was so big that I wondered, 'Is there such a human being?' He was a complete alpha male, so impressive. I thought it would be great if I were born like him," he laughed.
He also recalled, "While playing the character Gil-gu, I realized that when I express myself through emotions and expressions, he understands easily. I thought there was a fighter, but it turns out there was a cat. He understood that well, which made communication easy. He has a wide perspective. That charm made him a quick learner."
In particular, the director shared the behind-the-scenes story of casting Ahn Bo-hyun, saying, "When writing the character Gil-gu, no particular person came to mind. I only thought of the image from a comic book that is pure and full of innocence, but no real person came to mind. Therefore, I thought to maximize the effectiveness by directing a completely different person than I had in mind."
He added, "Anyway, after searching through many works, I noticed that Ahn Bo-hyun had a somewhat macho, stereotypical alpha male look, and I thought I needed to draw out the cat within him. So, I met him and said, 'Let's see if we can pull out the Gil-gu within you,' but he already had the cat inside him."
