Actor Jung Il-woo candidly confessed the meaning of the tears he shed on the Camino de Santiago in Spain, where he had departed on the boundary between life and death.
On the KBS2 TV entertainment show 'Problem Child in House 2' broadcast on the 7th, Jung Il-woo reflected on a turning point in his life, mentioning a car accident and his battle with a brain aneurysm that he experienced at the age of twenty.
He confessed, 'I was in a car accident right before the audition for "Unstoppable High Kick." I even experienced symptoms of short-term memory loss. At that time, I didn't realize it, but later at 27, I was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Everything went dark before my eyes. I didn't know how to live, so I confined myself to my room for a month.'
Amidst that, he suddenly recalled the 'place I really wanted to go.' He said, 'After preparing for six months, I headed to Santiago,' adding, 'Every moment I walked on that path, I felt the sensation of being alive. There was a time I walked 49 km in a day.'
Jung Il-woo has walked the pilgrimage route a total of three times. He said, 'The first time I went alone was when I was the most troubled. I wanted to share that happiness with my friends, so I went two more times.' He also added, 'My mother, who is about to retire this year, wants to go on the pilgrimage, so I plan to go with her one more time.'
The most impressive moment was the mass at Santiago Cathedral. He said, 'Suddenly, I burst into tears during the mass. I sobbed uncontrollably. I don't know why. However, after crying like that, my heart felt organized.' He noted, 'That moment is still vivid. It seems like the emotions that had built up over time burst forth. I think we all need such moments.'
Jung Il-woo is a Roman Catholic. He confessed, 'As I was praying in front of the cathedral, it just burst out. The days I had run through without a moment to reflect on my life flashed by, and it was a time to pause and look back at myself.'
