Broadcaster Kim Byung-man won in a parental rights termination lawsuit against his ex-wife A's daughter B.
On the afternoon of the 8th, the Seoul Family Court held a ruling session on the parental rights termination lawsuit filed by Kim Byung-man against B and issued a ruling in favor of the case.
In 2011, Kim Byung-man married A, a non-celebrity woman seven years his senior. At that time, A had a daughter, B, from her previous marriage, and Kim Byung-man adopted B as his own.
However, in November 2023, news of Kim Byung-man's sudden divorce attracted attention. The couple had been living separately since 2012, just a year after their marriage, and after filing for divorce in 2019, the divorce was finalized in 2023 after going through the appeals court and Supreme Court.
In this context, A claimed that Kim Byung-man had habitually assaulted her during their marriage and had been sent to prosecutors on charges of assault, causing a stir. In response, Kim Byung-man's agency, Sky Turtle, dismissed these claims as "baseless," noting that while A alleged that Kim Byung-man assaulted her during their marriage, the court did not accept this. They stated that during the time A claimed to have been assaulted, Kim Byung-man was abroad. It was countered that A made false claims to gain an advantage in the lawsuit. However, A's claims were not recognized by the court, and the prosecution also expressed an opinion of non-indictment.
In particular, the agency revealed that A demanded 3 billion won from Kim Byung-man in exchange for terminating her parental rights over B and that Kim Byung-man had taken out numerous life insurance policies in his name, shocking the public. Additionally, since A was managing the couple's assets, it was explained that she made false accusations against Kim Byung-man to avoid giving him a fair division of property. Furthermore, the prosecution's investigation results publicly disclosed through the media indicated that regarding habitual assault and other allegations, there was "no grounds for prosecution and no charges," ultimately clearing him of all accusations.
However, Kim Byung-man had filed for parental rights termination against B twice at the time of the divorce proceedings but lost because B did not wish for it. A proposed a settlement where she would provide a parental rights termination agreement under the condition that Kim Byung-man would not receive a property division (totaling 1.8 billion won), but Kim Byung-man reportedly rejected this.
Meanwhile, in April of this year, news broke of Kim Byung-man's remarriage. His fiancée is a younger non-celebrity who works at a company, and the couple is reportedly set to hold their wedding this September. Following this, Kim Byung-man initiated a third parental rights termination lawsuit to finalize his relationship with A, and B suddenly filed a "request for confirmation of biological parent-child relationship" with the Seoul Family Court just before the ruling date. B argued that Kim Byung-man fathered two children with another woman during his marriage to A, raising the likelihood of them being extramarital children. B was quoted as saying she has a substantial interest in inheritance matters regarding these children and requested that the court order a DNA test.
In response, Kim Byung-man's agency stated, "After the marital relationship with A fell apart, he had two children with his current fiancée," confirming that he indeed has two children, but clarifying that they were born after the breakdown of his marriage with A.
There were also debates about Kim Byung-man's two children, but the court ultimately ruled in favor of Kim Byung-man in the parental rights termination lawsuit held on the 8th. His agency stated to OSEN, "The immoral acts arising from B's false accusations have been recognized and parental rights termination was granted." Ultimately, Kim Byung-man completely concluded his legal relationship with his ex-wife A about a month before his wedding scheduled for September after three attempts.
Meanwhile, Kim Byung-man will hold his wedding with his younger non-celebrity fiancée on September 20 at a location in Seoul.
