YG Entertainment has succeeded in turning its operating profit to a surplus in the second quarter of this year.
YG Entertainment reported a consolidated operating profit of 8.4 billion won for the second quarter, according to a provisional notice on the 8th. This figure marks a sudden shift from a loss of 11 billion won during the same period last year. Sales reached 100.4 billion won, an increase of 11.6% compared to the same period last year, while net profit also turned to a surplus at 11.2 billion won.
What is noteworthy is that this performance was achieved without the release of any albums in the second quarter. YG noted that "the world tour of BABYMONSTER and TREASURE's fan concert tour in the Americas, along with the global tours of lower-tier intellectual properties (IP), drove profitability," adding that "sales from performances, digital content, and merchandise have all shown growth, maintaining a stable growth trajectory."
The first world tour of BABYMONSTER, which kicked off in January, is titled "2025 BABYMONSTER 1st WORLD TOUR.
TREASURE also played a key role in driving results in the second quarter. They successfully completed their first U.S. tour, "TREASURE 2025 FIRST US TOUR [SPECIAL MOMENT]," performing in four North American cities including New York, Washington D.C., Oakland, and Los Angeles. The stage showcased a strong hip-hop vibe alongside a refreshing mood, eliciting explosive responses from fans, while they appeared in local broadcasts and cultural events to expand their global presence.
Recently, YG has focused on the essence of music, pouring efforts into nurturing talented artists and enhancing content competitiveness. The growth of BABYMONSTER and TREASURE is a testament to this strategy and showcases the potential of the next generation lineup that will lead YG into a new decade.
In the second half of the year, YG plans to further expand the virtuous cycle structure of performances, merchandise, and digital content by rolling out new albums and tours for BLACKPINK, TREASURE, and BABYMONSTER. They specifically aim to respond quickly to the changing Chinese market, strengthening their global network and maintaining a stable growth trajectory.
As YG Entertainment re-establishes itself as a leader in K-pop, attention is focused on whether it can write another golden chapter in the "post-BLACKPINK" era.
