Actor Jung Il-woo revealed his hospitalization and health deterioration following a car accident shortly after his debut, as well as his battle with an brain aneurysm.
During the broadcast of KBS2TV's variety show Problem Child in House 2 on the 7th, Jung Il-woo confessed about the schedule during his 20s, which felt like he was putting his body through a grind, and the extreme state of his health.
Jung Il-woo recalled, "Next year will mark my 20th anniversary since debut. The audition for High Kick Through the Roof had a competition rate of 400 to 1," and continued, "I was told I was chosen because I looked pretty when I smiled." He further mentioned, "The schedule was so intense that my average sleep time was only 15 to 20 minutes. I even fell asleep while showering," reminiscing about his extremely harsh debut days, which he described as 'High Kick level.'
In particular, he revealed, "My body was damaged due to a car accident right before filming. I was hospitalized for four and a half months, and when I was discharged, I weighed only 52 kg at 180 cm tall," shocking everyone. He added, "I had a fracture in my pelvis and had metal attached to my body. I couldn't kick during practice, but since I was already accepted for the audition, I had no choice but to hide the accident."
He also recalled advice from senior actor Lee Soon-jae, saying, "An actor should be like a blank canvas; you must never try to look cool. Just being yourself is impressive," and noted that this changed the direction of his life. He shared, "I didn't understand it in my 20s, but now that I'm in my 30s, I see the meaning behind that saying. I'm passing it on to my juniors as well."
The conversation also turned to his exercise routine. Jung Il-woo said, "These days, I exercise without fail every day. I've been told that my body is well-toned," and added, "My role models are Kim Jong-kook and Cha Seung-won." He continued, "Since I need to be cautious of high blood pressure, I can't lift heavy weights, but I seriously asked Kim Jong-kook, 'Will this be effective?'" Jung Il-woo has suffered from a brain aneurysm in the past. In response, Kim Jong-kook encouraged him, saying, "It's important how focused you are when exercising."
