Actress Im Yoon-a shared her feelings ahead of the 20th anniversary of Girls' Generation, coinciding with their 18th anniversary.
Im Yoon-a met with reporters at a cafe in Seongbuk-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 7th to conduct an interview regarding the movie "Pretty Crazy" (directed by Lee Sang-geun, provided and distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Oyu Naekang).
"Pretty Crazy" is a devilishly comedic film that captures the struggles of a young unemployed man, Gil-goo (Ahn Bo-hyun), who gets caught up in an extraordinary part-time job of watching Seon-ji (Im Yoon-a), who awakens as a demon every dawn. With its unique setting of the meeting between a demon and a young unemployed man, "Pretty Crazy" has been rated as cinematic and represents Lee Sang-geun's second work, having achieved a massive hit with his debut feature film, "Exit," which drew 9.42 million viewers, showcasing his pure and harmless directing style.
Im Yoon-a's character, the addictive demon Seon-ji, runs a bakery during the day but unknowingly wakes up as a higher-level demon at dawn. Im Yoon-a, portraying her character in a practical dual role, is expected to deliver refreshing laughs with her strikingly upgraded comedic performance.
Im Yoon-a, who debuted with Girls' Generation, is celebrating her 18th anniversary this year. As a representative of the second generation girl groups and a starting point of the current popularity and prestige of K-pop, Im Yoon-a captured public attention recently by sharing a photo taken with her fellow members to commemorate their 18th anniversary.
Im Yoon-a remarked, "August 1st is Tiffany's birthday. Since it's about four days apart from our debut date, Tiffany threw a birthday party, and we took commemorative shots for both occasions while we were gathered. This time, we met to celebrate Tiffany's birthday, and since it had been a long while since we all met, we took a group photo to show on the anniversary. I almost couldn't attend because of filming that day, but as the time got delayed, I came back in the middle. There's a strong desire to be together. "
In particular, a recent discussion by Kwon Yu-ri on her YouTube channel regarding Girls' Generation's plans for their 20th anniversary tour has garnered much attention. Im Yoon-a noted, "It's not typically our style to talk so specifically. It was merely casual chatter that derived from a conversation about the 20th anniversary, leading to many questions. If something does happen, since we have many individual activities, it was just talk stemming from imagination, so there isn't anything set in stone yet. Even if we talked amongst ourselves, there are matters involving the agency, so it would be nice to have something to commemorate our 20th anniversary."
As she marks her 18th anniversary, Im Yoon-a is set to meet viewers through the release of the movie "Pretty Crazy" and the tvN drama "Bon Appetit, Your Majesty." "Bon Appetit, Your Majesty" tells the story of a time-traveling French chef who meets a tyrant king, combining elements of fantasy survival romance that spans 500 years. Directed by Jang Tae-yoo, known for works such as "My Love from the Star," "Hyena," "Hong Chun-ki," and "Flower That Blooms at Night."
In the film, Im Yoon-a plays the cheerful and assertive French chef Yeon Ji-young. On the day she wins the top culinary contest in France, she suddenly is transported back to the Joseon Dynasty, where she meets the worst tyrant, presenting him with fusion court cuisine.
Im Yoon-a was supposed to work alongside actor Park Seong-hoon in "Bon Appetit, Your Majesty," but after a personal controversy, Lee Chae-min was brought in to replace the male lead, requiring her to adjust accordingly. She said, "Both the movie and drama were works where I felt I had to take the lead. Personally, I gave a lot of thought to how I could express my character well. I pondered on that, and coincidentally, due to the situation of the other actor, I focused on fulfilling my responsibilities. The other actors managed to embody their characters well, and I'm thankful for that."
Im Yoon-a is showcasing both comedic elements in the film and a romantic vibe in the drama. She shared, "I don't partition characters according to media, but coincidentally, I feel that I express a more liberated vibe in the movie. Of course, I don't limit myself on works, as I would love to take on good projects regardless of whether they are dramas or films; it's just that I think I ended up showing something with comedic elements, so I also hope to display a different kind of atmosphere."
