The painful family history of actor Yoon Kyung-ho was revealed on 'Yoo Quiz on the Block'.
In the episode aired on the 6th, actor Yoon Kyung-ho, who celebrated a comeback after 20 years, appeared to grant his first confession about his family history.
On that day, Yoon Kyung-ho said, 'On such a good day, the person I think about the most is my mom.' To this, Yoo Jae-suk asked, 'Did your mother listen to you in a fun way?'
Most of all, Yoon Kyung-ho said, 'My mom has always been such a presence for me,' and added, 'In fact, I've never properly talked about it anywhere before, but since I can't come back to this place, I'll tell you.' Yoon Kyung-ho recalled his childhood, saying, 'My mom relied on me a lot and, as a friend, she was really my only friend. As I entered my teenage years and began to hang out with other friends, my mom became bothersome at times. Sometimes, it felt burdensome to know that my mom was waiting to hear my story.'
'I didn't know, but my mom was suffering from severe depression at that time. Unable to overcome it, she eventually ended her life. There must be many people who have that kind of pain. My maternal grandmother said something like that at the time. She said, if people found out your mom passed away that way, they might speak ill of you. She told me to say that she passed away in an accident instead. I have never been able to say how my mom passed away,' he said with tears.
He continued, 'When good things happen, the person I think about the most is my mom, so after joy comes emptiness. No one has ever reacted to me as genuinely as my mom did. Even now, it's a very happy moment and I'm proud, but there's always emptiness because there's no one to share it with.'
In a follow-up interview, Yoon Kyung-ho expressed, 'The absence of my mom is always significant to me. She knows me best. I still don't know the time I was born. She is the only one who knows that.' He also recalled, 'I once saw a diary my mother wrote. She had asked me why I needed sandals when I had sneakers, but it turned out she had endured all four seasons with just one pair of winter jeans.'
When asked what he would like to tell his mother if she were alive, Yoon Kyung-ho replied, 'I want to talk a lot about the kids. As I've raised them, they really seem to resemble me, and I want to ask, 'Did I do this too?'' He expressed his longing for his mother.
Finally, Yoon Kyung-ho said, 'Mom, I appeared on 'Yoo Quiz.' When I come back to your side later, please make the dishes you wanted to cook for me and hug the grandchildren. The grandchildren might come late. I miss you.' He left a video letter to his deceased mother.
Meanwhile, Yoon Kyung-ho shed tears expressing his gratitude and guilt towards his wife, who supported him during difficult times. As he cried throughout the segment, Yoo Jae-suk comforted him, saying, 'This is the first time I've seen a grant participant cry this much on air. I guess we should call him 'tearful Kyung-ho.'
