Ailee, the 'K-pop diva,' will take the stage at a special performance in South Africa.
Ailee will perform at the 'Ubuntu with K-Culture - Korea Cultural Festival' on Sept. 6 at Sunbet Arena in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. This performance is an event co-hosted by the South Korean Embassy in South Africa, the Korea Cultural Center, and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to commemorate the G20 summit in South Africa in November.
As the first performance by a K-pop artist in South Africa and the first stage for a solo singer, local fans are very enthusiastic. Tickets for the 'Ubuntu with K-Culture - Korea Cultural Festival' sold out immediately once they were released. Ailee is well-known locally as a K-pop artist with stunning performances and powerful vocals, having contributed to drama soundtracks such as 'I Will Go to You Like the First Snow.'
South Africa is a country with a high interest in Korea and Korean culture, including K-pop, K-drama, K-beauty, and K-food. Last year, over 3,000 local citizens participated in the 'Korea Cultural Festival' held in South Africa, and there were also 105 K-pop cover dance teams that supported the 'K-pop Dance Festival' across South Africa.
Ailee's agency, A2Z Entertainment (Pop Music), noted, "Just being able to meet fans who are filled with affection for K-pop in a place where exchanges are not easy due to geographical location is a great expectation," and added, "As it is a meaningful stage, we will prepare a repertoire that allows the audience to fully feel the charm of K-pop."
Ailee has actively engaged in her career this year by releasing her seventh mini-album 'Memoire'. The mini-album 'Memoire,' which Ailee published after a year of preparation, has drawn attention as Pdogg, a composer for BTS and a producer at Big Hit Music, took charge of all lyrics, composition, and production for the entire album, including the title track 'MMI.'
Meanwhile, Ailee will hold a solo concert at Pechanga Resort Summit in Los Angeles, U.S., on Aug. 16, ahead of her stage in South Africa in September. She also joined the judging panel for SBS's global vocal competition 'Global Vailed Musician.'
