Actor Song Young-kyu (55) has passed away, with mourning from family members, fellow actors, and fans.
The funeral for Song Young-kyu was held at 8 a.m. on the 6th at the Davos Hospital funeral hall in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. His wife and two daughters were present to accompany him on his final journey. The burial site is the Hambeoksan Memorial Park.
He was found dead in a vehicle in Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, on the morning of the 4th. Police stated that there were no signs of foul play at the scene. He was undergoing an investigation for DUI allegations.
He was sent to the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office without detention last month for allegedly driving under the influence on a 5 km stretch from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin on the night of June 19.
When the DUI incident became known, filming segments from the dramas "The Defects" and other ongoing projects were edited out. He also dropped out of the upcoming play "Shakespeare in Love."
Actor Lee Jong-hyuk said, "I feel empty. Did you hate this world so much? It's disappointing because you were weak. I really didn't know you would do this. You cared for me, so rest well." Lee Jae-yong noted, "I can only imagine the weight of life placed on his shoulders as the head of the family. The heart hurts more because I can empathize with him." Others including Jeong Tae-woo, Ryu Seung-soo, Lim Se-mi, Jang Hyuk-jin, and Park Joo-hyun also expressed their condolences.
He made his debut in 1994 with the children's musical "Murtal Dosa." He gained attention for his role as Chief Choi in the 2019 film "Extreme Job." He also appeared in Netflix's drama "Suriname" and Disney+'s drama "Casino." This year, he starred in a total of five works, including the drama "Love Scout," "The Haunted Palace," "Oh My Ghost Clients," "The Defects," and "The Trial."
