On a hot summer night, a beautiful hanbok fashion show unfolded amidst a dazzling wave of lights.
"Seoul Light DDP 2025 Summer" (organized by: Seoul Design Foundation) opened on the 31st. The famous traditional hanbok brand Geumdanje and the pattern design brand OUWR opened the stage for the "Seoul Light DDP." This was the first hanbok fashion show held at DDP, taking place at the Igan Water Gate of Seoul Fortress, where the past and present coexist. It was a fashion show that evokes expectations of light and art, tradition and the present, and the future.
From luxurious traditional hanbok to modern patterned hanbok, the fashion show was intertwined with media art and sensory music. With the addition of a powerful modern dance performance by the Blacktoe of Iruda, it completed a refreshing stage reminiscent of a musical. During the fashion show, a total of 180 media droplet sculptures and waves of light following the textures of the fortress created a stunning spectacle with colorful light art.
Anne Lee, the chief designer of Geumdanje, said, "It seems we were able to create a richer opening stage because this fashion show combined cutting-edge technology with media art, traditional hanbok, and modern dance." She noted, "I will continue to work with various fields to allow the public to enjoy our traditional hanbok, which can hold its own anywhere in the world, more closely and think constantly about the charm of tradition."
Ha-eun Jang, the chief designer of OUWR, said, "It was a meaningful fashion show as we could express the beauty of hanbok through the flow of time from tradition to the present and into the future." She added, "In the future, I will continue to showcase hanbok designs that resonate and are loved globally, based on our unique values."
The opening hanbok fashion show featured top domestic experts, including jewelry designer Chae-rim (RIMM GIO, CEO), space director Biki Jeong, the Blacktoe of Iruda, Posh Studio, Kim Cheong-gyeong Hair Face, and music by Usicove. Actors Jang Ha-kyeong, Hwang Eun-ha, Miss Korea, and the Blacktoe dance troupe served as runway models and received much applause for their wonderful stage manners.
Despite the tropical night, 10,000 citizens attended the opening ceremony of the "Seoul Light DDP." Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul, along with Cha Kang-hee, CEO of Seoul Design Foundation; Lee Sang-wook, vice chairman of the Seoul City Council Urban Planning and Balance Committee; Emilia Gatto, Italian Ambassador to Korea; and Michela Linda Magri, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Korea, were present. The event runs daily from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. until the 10th.
