The Tving original series "Dear X" is coming to uphold the standards of its loosely adapted webtoon drama.
Slated for release in November, the Tving original series "Dear X" (directed by Lee Eung-bok and Park So-hyun, written by Choi Ja-won, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by Monster Union and Siwoo Company, provided by Tving, based on the Naver Webtoon "Dear X" [by Ban Ji-woon]) tells the story of Baek Ah-jin (played by Kim Yoo-jung), a woman who wears a mask to rise from hell to the highest place, and the tale of Xs who were brutally trampled by her. It presents the tale of Baek Ah-jin's downfall as she rises from the bottom of life to the top and the desperate love of Yoon Joon-seo (played by Kim Young-dae), who chose hell to protect her, offering an unprecedented masterpiece of destructive melodramatic suspense.
Above all, expectations are high for the first meeting between director Lee Eung-bok, a legendary hitmaker known for creating "Sweet Home," "Mr. Sunshine," "Goblin," and "Descendants of the Sun," and Tving. Adding to this is director Park So-hyun, a master of sensuous direction, and the award-winning writer Choi Ja-won, who won the highest award in the 2018 KBS short drama script contest. Given that the series is based on the popular webtoon of the same name, which has a strong global fandom, it has generated buzz even before its release. The meeting of Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, Kim Do-hoon, and Lee Yeol-eum, who are expected to maximize the genre's thrill with a trusted production team, excites drama fans.
The script reading event, confirmed for release in November, further fuels expectations. On that day, director Lee Eung-bok, director Park So-hyun, and writer Choi Ja-won gathered together with Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, and Kim Do-hoon to deliver powerful performances.
First, Kim Yoo-jung made a bold transformation as "Baek Ah-jin," who wears a mask to survive. Baek Ah-jin is a top actress who has climbed to the highest point, stepping over the traumas of her childhood. She possesses the insight to penetrate others' hearts and achieve what she wants. Kim Yoo-jung overwhelmed the script reading event with her compelling performance, portraying Baek Ah-jin's cruel true nature hidden behind her beautiful face.
The character "Yoon Joon-seo," who believes he can save Baek Ah-jin with his love, is played by Kim Young-dae. Having stayed by Baek Ah-jin's side all his life, Yoon Joon-seo is his only refuge and Achilles' heel. Willing to walk through any mire for Baek Ah-jin, he is a character who ultimately dismantles everything he has struggled to protect for love. Kim Young-dae's intense portrayal of Yoon Joon-seo's relentless love raises expectations for a career-defining performance.
Kim Do-hoon takes on the role of "Kim Jae-o," whose purpose in life changed with one word from Baek Ah-jin. Having endured abuse from his father since childhood, Kim Jae-o survives fiercely and finds his reason for living in Baek Ah-jin, who shares the same pain, willingly becoming her shadow. Kim Do-hoon's performance enhances the allure of the precarious man Kim Jae-o, who protects Baek Ah-jin in a different way from Yoon Joon-seo.
Meanwhile, the Tving original series "Dear X" will be available on Tving in November.
