Actor Song Young-kyu's footage is minimized in 'The Defects.'
On the 5th, a representative from the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects' expressed condolences to OSEN, stating, "We express our deep sorrow over the sudden news of actor Song Young-kyu's passing. We sincerely wish for the repose of the deceased and convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family," adding, "We have proceeded with the broadcast editing in a direction to minimize the deceased's grants. We ask for the viewers' understanding."
Song Young-kyu was found dead in a vehicle in a certain location in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, around 8 a.m. on the 4th. He was 55 years old. According to Yonhap News and others, a woman discovered Song Young-kyu in the vehicle and reported it to the police, revealing that he was dead at the time of discovery. The Yongin Eastern Police Department is investigating the details. However, there are no indications of foul play or a suicide note.
Amid this, Song Young-kyu was currently appearing in 'The Defects.' The production team issued an official statement regarding the deceased's footage. According to the production team, Song Young-kyu's footage in 'The Defects' will cease after Episode 5, which was released on the 4th. This situation follows the revelation of Song Young-kyu's drunk driving incident on the 25th of last month, prior to the news of his passing.
Earlier, on June 19, Song Young-kyu faced allegations of drunk driving after driving about 5 kilometers while intoxicated. According to reports, the police, alerted by a witness, conducted a breath test at the scene, revealing a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit (0.08%). 'The Defects' had already premiered on the 21st of last month, and following the completion of the pre-produced drama's filming, the production team decided to edit Song Young-kyu's footage to retain only a minimal amount that would not disrupt the flow of the plot.
Born in 1970, Song Young-kyu was an actor graduated from the Department of Theater at Seoul Arts College. He made his formal debut in 1994 through the children's musical 'Murtel Dosa' after working with the Seoul Metropolitan Musical Company, among others. He later appeared in various dramas, including 'My Golden Life', 'Temperature of Love', the 'Investigation Couple' series, 'Stove League', 'Hiena', 'My Roommate is a Gumiho', 'Suriname', the 'Casino' series, and 'The Tale of Lady Ok', as well as films like 'Extreme Job', 'Until the End', 'Half', 'Trick', 'Pandora', 'VIP', 'Baseball Girl', 'Land of Happiness', and 'Pursuit of Life'. Besides 'The Defects', he is also meeting viewers through another pre-produced drama, 'Tri'.
The late actor's mortuary has been set up in Room 1 at the Davos Hospital funeral hall in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. His two daughters and wife are registered as the mourners. The funeral service will be held on the 6th at 8 a.m., with the burial site at Hambeak Mountain Memorial Park.
