In 'Twelve', Kang Mina, Seong Yu-bin, and Ahn Ji-hye transform into the twelve guardian angels.
On the 5th, the team behind KBS 2TV's new drama 'Twelve' (directed by Kang Dae-kyu and Han Yoon-sun) revealed character posters and still cuts of the angels Kang Ji (Kang Mina), Jui-dol (Seong Yu-bin), and Mal-suk (Ahn Ji-hye).
'Twelve' is an action hero story based on a series inspired by the twelve guardian deities of Tongyang, where twelve angels live in human forms to protect humanity and fight against evil forces.
Kang Mina, who has been expanding her acting spectrum with her outstanding performances in works such as 'Welcome to Samdalri,' 'Minamdang,' and 'Hotel Del Luna,' will portray the angel 'Kang Ji,' showcasing a fresh image. Kang Mina has been cast as 'Kang Ji,' the dog angel who possesses bravery and tenacity hidden behind her cute appearance, providing strong support to the other angels with her exceptional fighting skills. 'Kang Ji' especially has a profound love for humans, which drives her warm heart to never let go of her desire to protect them. Kang Mina expressed her commitment to deeply immersing herself in the character of 'Kang Ji,' stating, "As an animal that lives closest to humans, I wanted to empathize with their hearts and focus on the emotional connection between humans and angels." Additionally, as this is her first attempt at an action genre, she emphasized, "I aimed to showcase actions reminiscent of a hunting dog, working hard to not appear awkward or clumsy," sparking anticipation for Kang Mina's swift and impactful actions.
Seong Yu-bin plays the role of the rat angel 'Jui-dol,' who serves as an indispensable technician among the angels with his brilliant mind. Having built a solid career as an actor since his child star days, starting with 'Wandeugi' and demonstrating his growth with works such as 'I Can Speak,' 'Along with the Gods: Crime and Punishment,' 'The Witch: Part 2,' and 'Genreless Romance,' Seong Yu-bin, now portraying 'Jui-dol' in 'Twelve,' plays a vital brain for the twelve angels, developing various equipment and weapons. Noting the support he provides to the other angels, Seong Yu-bin stated, "I focused on creating chemistry with the other angels to present ourselves well as one team," raising curiosity about the diverse chemistry and synergy he creates with his fellow angels. Regarding action, he revealed that through discussions with the martial arts director, they developed actions that highlight the agile characteristics of a rat, piquing curiosity about the unique actions that only 'Jui-dol' can perform.
The character of the horse angel 'Mal-suk,' who displays her presence through swift actions rather than words, will be vividly portrayed by Ahn Ji-hye, a rising action star. Ahn Ji-hye, who has showcased not only stable acting skills but also unique action abilities in 'The Outlaws,' 'Dr. Frost,' and 'Six Flying Dragons,' portrays 'Mal-suk' as an angel imbued with power and speed, reminiscent of a galloping horse, and possessing resilience to rise again even after falling. Ahn Ji-hye expressed a strong affection and passion for her character 'Mal-suk,' stating, "From the beginning, I was strongly captivated by the fresh and profound worldview of 'Twelve,' which reinterpret traditional Tongyang themes into modern fantasy." In preparing for 'Mal-suk's actions, she revealed, "I focused on convincingly presenting a character that exudes cheerful energy symbolizing strength and speed like a horse, yet charges fiercely like a wild horse when facing evil forces," showcasing her confidence. Viewers can look forward to the overwhelming action sequences created by her dedicated performance.
The revealed character posters and stills encapsulate the unique atmospheres emitted by each character and are filled with the personalities of the 12 guardian animals symbolizing dogs, rats, and horses. The posters vividly depict 'Kang Ji' represented by the dog symbol 'Soo (戌),' 'Jui-dol' symbolized by the rat 'Ja (子),' and 'Mal-suk' depicting the horse 'O (午),' showcasing the angels' mystical powers and strength. In a world shadowed by evil forces, the three angels: 'Kang Ji,' 'Jui-dol,' and 'Mal-suk,' are set to confront challenges in their own ways, raising anticipation for how they will overcome the looming threats and shine in their efforts.
'Twelve' is set to premiere simultaneously on KBS 2TV's weekend miniseries and Disney+ on the 23rd.
