Actor Song Young-kyu, who appeared in the film 'Extreme Job', is being revisited online for having to move from an APT. to a semi-basement villa in the past.
The late Song Young-kyu mentioned in a 2020 tvN program 'The Righteous Wrath of Mina' that he moved to a semi-basement villa.
The deceased noted, "I lived in a larger APT. for 11 years before," and mentioned that "the economic burden decreased due to the education of my two daughters."
He stated, "The eldest is studying abroad in the U.S., and the second has entered a high school for musical studies," and "the burden of tuition is too great, and since her will is so strong and she is doing well, I couldn't discourage her."
Ultimately, deciding to support his daughters, he stated, "I had no choice but to reduce our living expenses to sufficiently support the tuition for my second daughter," and added, "I ended up moving to this small but cozy place."
The late Song Young-kyu debuted in 1994 in the children's musical 'MerTel Dosa' and has worked in film, theater, and drama. He participated in musicals such as 'Les Misérables' (1998), 'Ahn Jung-geun' (1999), and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (1999).
He gained attention as a 'scene stealer' in the 2012 drama 'The Chasers'. Until then, he had been doing odd jobs, such as window cleaning in high-rise buildings, but he became able to sustain his livelihood solely from acting, while his wife supported him by operating a café.
However, around 2023, as the number of projects decreased, economic difficulties increased, and with his wife's café also suffering losses, it is reported that Song Young-kyu struggled to keep working.
Afterwards, Song Young-kyu focused on acting while living separately from his family, but in June this year, he was caught driving under the influence and dropped out of the projects he was in.
He reportedly faced a significant penalty fee. A friend noted, "Until I met him last year, he had been living apart from his family (wife and children), and it seems that with the DUI incident occurring in that situation, uncertainty about the future grew."
He mentioned in an interview at the time regarding the DUI incident, "I called for a designated driver, but a friend of mine came by, and while talking to him at the convenience store, the driver left. It was under 5 minutes to my house, and at that moment, I made a wrong judgment, using cruise control and driving myself, which led to this."
He was found dead on the 4th in a vehicle in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. A friend discovered him and reported to the police, and no signs of foul play were found.
