The 82nd Venice International Film Festival has invited the film 'No Other Choice' (directed by Park Chan-wook, distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Moho Film and CJ ENM Studios), featuring Park Hee-soon as 'Seon-chul,' the captain of a successful paper company, who promises to showcase new charm.
'No Other Choice' follows the story of 'Mansu' (Lee Byung-hun), an office worker who felt his life was satisfying enough to say he had 'achieved everything,' but after getting abruptly fired, prepares for a personal battle towards reemployment to protect his home, which he had worked hard to secure, and to safeguard his wife and two children. Actor Park Hee-soon, who has proven his irreplaceable presence by intricately revealing the multilayered inner selves and emotions of characters in films like 'The Witch,' 'Blood of Passion,' Apple TV+'s 'Dr. Brain,' Netflix's 'My Name,' 'Model Family,' and 'Squid Game' Seasons 2 and 3, will add vitality to the film through his role as 'Seon-chul,' showcasing flexible acting variations according to genre and character.
Even amidst an industry recession, 'Seon-chul,' who holds a captains position at a successful paper company, elicits envy and jealousy from 'Mansu' with his carefree attitude. Park Hee-soon convincingly portrays a multidimensional character with a seemingly carefree disposition that, while appearing to have it all, also displays a delicate side. Working with Lee Byung-hun in the role of 'Mansu,' they add unique excitement to the film through their dynamic interplay of tension and humor.
'Seon-chul is a character with many inner conflicts, and it was crucial to maintain balance,' noted Park Hee-soon, who is expected to leave a deep impression with a different charm from his previous works. Director Park Chan-wook expressed, 'I wanted to see Park Hee-soon portray a character with emotional fluctuations and versatility, and I felt this was the opportunity.' As such, Park Hee-soon is poised to unveil a remarkable transformation in his acting.
