The appearance of new angels Ko Gyu-pil and Regina Ray in 'Twelve' has been unveiled.
On the 4th, the production team of the new KBS 2TV Saturday-Sunday mini-series 'Twelve' (directed by Kang Dae-kyu and Han Yoon-sun) released character posters and stills of the angel Doni (Ko Gyu-pil) and Bang-ul (Regina Ray).
The series 'Twelve', inspired by the 12 zodiac signs of Tongyang, depicts 12 angels who live in human form to protect humanity, confronting evil forces in an action hero narrative.
Ko Gyu-pil, who rose to stardom with his exceptional ability to portray unique characters in series such as 'The Fiery Priest', 'Detective Records', 'Yunmo', and 'The Outlaws 3', is set to debut as the angel 'Doni', signaling another career-defining character. In the human world, 'Doni' works as a nurse at the Taesan Oriental Medicine Clinic operated by fellow angel 'Bang-ul' and, as an angel representing a pig, possesses surprisingly agile movements and great power, alongside a special ability to read the hearts of animals.
Ko Gyu-pil expressed his affection for the character, saying, "From the planning stage, I asked to be entrusted with the pig character if needed," and noted, "Given the nature of the genre, action is crucial, so I contemplated what kind of action would suit 'Doni' rather than simple movements. I prepared a unique attacking method utilizing the abdomen, believing it could highlight the character's charm, and I hope it will be a new endeavor," sharing his efforts to perfect the signature action of 'Doni'.
Rising actress Regina Ray takes on the role of 'Bang-ul', officially unveiling her face to the public. 'Bang-ul' is an angel symbolizing a snake and, utilizing ancient healing practices passed down through generations, operates a clinic. When her colleagues face indiscriminate attacks from evil forces, she treats them and manufactures power-enhancing medicine, fulfilling her role remarkably. She is also expected to showcase a unique chemistry with 'Doni', who reads her unspoken thoughts.
Regina Ray shared, "The zodiac is a very familiar subject in Asian culture, which made it particularly intriguing. I was impressed by the transformation of the character, the heroic narrative, and the various action scenes," elaborating on her reasons for participating and raising expectations for the distinctive worldview of 'Twelve'. She added, "I tried to observe the characteristics of snakes as much as possible through various media. The costume was designed to reflect a snake skin texture with scales slightly visible, and I aimed to express movements as if the snake was coiling during a hunt to bring out the character's traits. Please look forward to the actions of 'Bang-ul', which coexist softness and strength."
The released character posters and stills vividly capture each character's unique personality and charm, raising anticipation. In particular, the visual elements symbolizing the pig and the snake are eye-catching. The Chinese character for 'Doni', symbolizing pig, is imbued with a pink fluffy coat texture, representing the warm yet heavy identity of the character. Similarly, 'Bang-ul' adds mystery with intricately expressed scale patterns within the Chinese character for 'snake'. The design sensibly implements the symbols of each character, further highlighting the unique worldview and character appeal in 'Twelve', and elevating expectations for the dazzling exploits and chemistry of 'Doni' and 'Bang-ul' in the work.
'Twelve' is set to air simultaneously on Disney+ and KBS 2TV on Saturday, the 23rd, drawing anticipation from viewers both domestically and globally.
