Actor late Song Young-kyu has suddenly passed away, revealing a tragic story of his family being forced to live apart due to difficulties with their family business.
On the 4th, a close associate of Song Young-kyu told OSEN, "My brother had a lot of stress even outside of this (driving under the influence) incident. Including personal matters, it seems that the reduction in projects led to a vicious cycle," adding, "As the stress accumulated, it seems he turned to alcohol to forget the pain. It's very tragic since people around him advised against it."
According to the close associate, Song Young-kyu engaged in acting in dramas and films, and while his wife ran a café business, the couple worked hard, but as the economy worsened, they reportedly suffered losses.
In response, the close associate said, "Until I met Song Young-kyu last year, he was living apart from his family (including his wife and children). He got an officetel in Bundang and continued his acting career while living alone," adding, "In such a situation, with the drinking and driving incident happening, it seems the sense of despair for the future grew. He must have been under stress that he couldn't handle."
Lastly, the close associate stated, "Of course, drinking and driving is clearly a mistake, but actor Song Young-kyu was a person with so much talent and a really good personality, and it's very upsetting and tragic," and lamented, "Although there were various problems, I wish he could have solved them one by one."
Meanwhile, Song Young-kyu was found in a vehicle in the Cheoin-gu district of Yongin around 8 a.m. The discovery was made by a woman who then reported it to the police. The police are currently investigating the details.
Previously, on the night of June 19, Song Young-kyu was caught driving under the influence over a distance of about 5 kilometers in the Giheung-gu area of Yongin. The police were dispatched following a report from a witness, and his blood alcohol concentration was said to be at a level that would lead to license revocation (0.08% or higher).
This news came to light a month later. Ultimately, Song Young-kyu had to step down from the dramas "Try" and "The Defects," as well as the play "Shakespeare in Love."
The funeral home for Song Young-kyu has been set up in the special room 1 of the Davos Hospital in Yongin, with his two daughters and wife listed as the mourners. The funeral is set for 8 a.m. on the 6th, and the burial site will be Hambaeksan Memorial Park.
