Former MBC announcer Jeong Eun-im, who passed away due to a sudden traffic accident. It has already been 21 years since he suddenly left his loved ones.
The deceased, a graduate of Seoul National University, joined MBC in 1992. After working as a weathercaster, he received great love from listeners while hosting 'Jeong Eun-im's FM Movie Music' on MBC FM. Even though it aired at 1 a.m., many people were captivated by his voice.
Jeong Eun-im cultivated a fanbase with his beautiful voice, calm hosting, deep affection for movies, and profound reflections on life and society. He maintained his radio booth from the first broadcast on Nov. 2, 1992, until April 1, 1995. Unfortunately, 'Jeong Eun-im's FM Movie Music' came to an end, and he left for studies in the United States in 1998 after getting married.
Jeong Eun-im, who earned a master's degree from Northwestern University in the United States with the thesis 'Korean Movie Mania', returned home and took the DJ microphone for 'Jeong Eun-im's FM Movie Music' again from Oct. 21, 2003. However, just six months after resuming broadcasting, he suffered the pain of cancellation once more on April 26, 2004.
The accident occurred three months later. On July 22, 2004, while driving his vehicle, Jeong Eun-im was involved in an accident where his car overturned at an intersection in Heukseok-dong, Seoul. A secondary collision occurred with another vehicle coming from the opposite lane, and he was urgently transported to the hospital, but his condition was critical.
Jeong Eun-im ultimately passed away due to complications following cerebral edema on Aug. 4, 2004, at the age of 37. The funeral was held at MBC's headquarters, and the deceased's remains were buried at Bukhan River Park in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province. He is survived by his beloved husband and one son.
In August last year, MBC planned a special program titled 'Reunion on a Summer Day' to mark the 20th anniversary of Jeong Eun-im's passing. Using high-quality voice conversion technology, they recreated the voice of the deceased, and to achieve a sense of realism as if broadcasting live, voice actor Nam Yu-jung participated in the reading of the script, capturing the deceased's mannerisms and skills to supplement the lacking parts.
The production team involved in the project stated they spent a long time contemplating what Jeong Eun-im would have talked about if he had been broadcasting in 2024, ultimately writing the script. Although over 20 years have passed since he left this world, many still remember and commemorate the voice of the deceased.
