Pilot reveals a hidden life involving coming out, marriage, and divorce
A Korean pilot active in the United States shared his coming out and marriage/divorce, which even his parents were unaware of.
On the 4th, a pilot holding Canadian and U.S. nationality appeared on the KBS Joy variety show 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' and opened up about the deep stories in his heart.
He left Korea with his parents during his high school years to emigrate and stated, 'Since I left Korea due to a heart-wrenching situation, I want to overcome my sadness and hatred towards Korea,' adding, 'I regret hating Korea so much.'
He recalled a painful school life, saying, 'I was bullied and beaten for being feminine in high school,' and 'I lived without friends, and I became obsessed with a friend I met while tutoring in my sophomore year, which led to even more teasing.' He added, 'In the end, I asked my parents to emigrate to protect myself.'
After immigrating, he mentioned that he searched for places without Koreans, stating, 'I erased all memories of Korea,' explaining the reason for his isolated life. However, he also experienced the pain of being expelled from church after coming out. 'Still, there was no bullying from people,' he said calmly.
As a sexual minority, he revealed, 'I first told my younger sibling, and later in 2013, I married a man 12 years older than me.' He admitted, 'We lived together for 10 years, but we divorced two years ago.' He added, 'After the divorce, my relationship with my parents gradually became more distant, and I was only able to come out then.'
His deeply religious parents reacted as expected, stating, 'They screamed and caused a scene. I thought I was going to lose my parents.' However, he shared a surprising twist. 'Last year, without saying anything, my parents attended a queer parade. After meeting other sexual minorities, they said, 'I didn't know you were suffering this much,' and he became emotional.
His confession of facing a painful past and reconciliation with his family resonated deeply with many viewers.
