'The King of Kings' surpassed 1 million cumulative viewers on August 3rd (Sunday), 19 days after its release. This marked a significant milestone, as it became the highest-grossing animated film released in 2025, surpassing 'Attack on Titan: The Final Season - The Last Attack', and it is the only animated film released this year to exceed 1 million viewers. At the same time, it ranked 9th in the overall box office for Korean films in 2025 and 16th overall, solidifying its presence in the competitive summer theater scene.
'The King of Kings' recorded the 4th highest gross in the history of Korean animation, following 'My Chickens', 'A Love That Wouldn't End', and 'Dino King: Journey to the South'. Even after three weeks since its release, it continues to receive enthusiastic responses and strong word-of-mouth from family audiences during the summer vacation, raising interest in whether 'The King of Kings' can achieve new box office records.
Director Jang Seong-ho, who helmed 'The King of Kings', thanked the audience upon reaching 1 million viewers. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude with a handwritten message featuring a character he personally drew of 'Jesus', saying, 'Thank you, audience. Go Korea cinema! Go Korean animation!'
