Actress Kim Geum-soon, who is raising two sons, revealed her unique educational philosophy on 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant'.
On the 1st, the KBS 2TV entertainment program 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' featured a heartwarming and cheerful story of Kim Geum-soon and her son.
On this day, the eldest son, Taedu, was busy packing his bags. Kim Geum-soon said, 'It's time. I should send him out. He's an adult now, and the second son should go live as well. 'Leave soon; it's uncomfortable.' So today is the day he heads to the goshiwon.
Currently, Kim Geum-soon was living in a one-room home with a small living room. When asked about the size, she said, 'The house is somewhat small.' She continued, 'Even if I live in a semi-basement room or a one-room apartment after taking out all the deposits, living in short-term dwellings and studying there is important. Experiencing through travel is crucial, and I hope my children can live the lives they want.'
In particular, she noted, 'I've learned a lot while traveling. There are so many things to learn from talking to completely unfamiliar people from different cultures, and I hope the kids can experience that, so I tell them to 'go outside and explore much more.' This revealed her clear educational philosophy, catching attention.
In fact, Kim Geum-soon even withdrew her deposits to cover Taedu's study abroad expenses. Taedu shared in an interview, 'My mother is very open-minded. She thinks a lot about how she can support us in going down the right path. Since I developed a love for basketball, when I said, 'Mom, I want to play basketball,' she really sent me to the U.S.'
Kim Geum-soon reflected, 'I was good at basketball. I was a 'goose mom.' I lived in a goshiwon, in a one-room apartment, and stayed at friends' houses. I sent him by taking all that out.' Yet she remarked, 'I feel it's more of a duty that a mother has than just dedication. Without support and encouragement, it isn't easy to move forward.'
She added, 'I didn't do it all alone; my ex-husband and my friends helped me a lot each time. I haven't done anything by myself. What does it matter if I can't live in a good house? I'm living my life happily and diligently.' At this, Kim Jaejoong sitting next to her clasped his hands tightly and expressed his respect.
Meanwhile, the true reason behind her desire to make her son independent was revealed. Kim Geum-soon stated, 'The younger son is in the U.S., and since I'm alone, Taedu also needs to take responsibility for himself, so there's that stress. I can see that Taedu feels the stress of having to protect me.'
Kim Geum-soon expressed her affection for her son, stating, 'I hope he lives without worrying about others and thinks more about his own life every day going forward.' Taedu felt the same, saying, 'I need some space from mom. There must be a life for Kim Geum-soon, but before being a mother, she is too bound by many things. I hope that doesn't continue.'
Taedu then remarked, 'I hope you go on a backpacking trip that you love when you don't have a schedule, mom.' He added, 'Go find a rich guy quickly. Someone tall.' Upon hearing this, Kim Jaejoong said, 'That's completely opposite from our family,' while Kim Geum-soon playfully closed her eyes and said, 'Taedu, stop it,' bringing laughter.
Finally, Kim Geum-soon humbly shared the secret to raising her two sons well: 'I don't particularly try to do anything special; I am living with them with the mindset of comrades or companions going through hardships together.'
In response, Kim Jaejoong said to Taedu, 'With that character, I would like to work with you. Come back from studying abroad and do something.' He praised, 'These days, it's hard to find good people. It's really difficult to find good talent. I see my mother and me in you.'
