The original soundtrack 'Golden (GOLDEN)' of the Netflix animation K-pop Demon Hunters has topped the UK Official Singles Chart 'Top 100'. It is a moment when K-pop has again reached the top of the charts after 13 years since Psy's 'Gangnam Style'.
According to the latest chart released on the 1st (local time), 'Golden' rose 3 spots from the previous week to reach number one in its 6th week since release. After initially entering at number 93, its ranking steadily increased thanks to the movie's popularity, ultimately re-establishing K-pop's presence in the heart of British popular music.
The official chart stated, "K-pop Demon Hunters has taken over the charts this week," adding, "This is the first time a K-pop track has reached number one since Psy." Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Charts, noted, "This week marks another groundbreaking moment for the Korean genre that dominates the world," directly mentioning the number one position of 'Golden'.
'Golden' is a song performed by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntress, who defeat evil spirits and protect the world with their singing in the film. It features contributions from former SM Entertainment trainee and composer Lee Jae (EJAE), Korean-American singer Audrey Nuna, and Rae Amiga, while composers from The Black Label, including Teddy and 24, worked on the track.
The song is currently at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. At the same time, K-pop Demon Hunters is achieving the highest viewership ratings ever for a Netflix original animation. Elements of traditional K-culture, along with K-pop, are captivating audiences worldwide with what is known as 'Korean-ness.'
