'MZ wannabe icon' IVE's Rei faced off against Gangnam in a Korean language contest.
The agency Starship Entertainment recently released a new episode of the YouTube channel 'Try It Out with Celsi Shipdo,' featuring Rei.
On this day, Gangnam appeared as a guest and faced Rei in a Korean language contest. About a year ago, Gangnam, who lost to Rei in a Korean language quiz, said, "I was just having fun back then," while Rei shot back, "You seemed quite serious," bringing laughter to the viewers.
The two then expressed confidence about the Korean language contest. Gangnam said, "Since then, I have studied a lot. So my Korean has improved," while Rei stated, "I studied Korean for 2 to 3 hours every day when I was a trainee. Then my teacher asked, 'How about taking the exam?' So I took it and immediately passed level 4 of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)," showcasing her exceptional skills.
The first '1st Try It Out Korean Language Ability Test' then officially began. The first question was an excerpt from an actual middle school first-grade Korean language textbook, asking the contestants to find the repeated expressions from K.Will's 'Love Blossom.' The two were flustered from the start with the difficult question, saying, 'The question is wrong,' but they created entertaining moments with fierce competition on the next easier question.
A playful competition continued with subsequent questions. Rei adorably protested to Gangnam, who shouted the answer before even hearing all the options, saying, "You're too eager, senior," and Gangnam replied, "Rei is doing well, so we should bring easier questions," acknowledging Rei's Korean skills. Amid this, they empathized by discussing the usage of words like 'refreshing' and their past difficulties with pronouncing words like 'dinosaur' and 'monkey.'
Furthermore, Rei kept asking the production team about the meanings of the words in the options until the end, showing a sharp demeanor by directly explaining the meanings of words that Gangnam found difficult, impressing the production staff.
After a tense competition, the two ended up tying, which led to additional questions. At that time, Gangnam attempted to cheat by secretly exchanging answers with his manager, prolonging the contest. Ultimately, Rei answered the final question, 'genetics,' correctly, securing the victory, and her lovely smile while wearing a crown made anyone watching feel warm inside.
