Broadcaster An Sun-young revealed that she has had a difficult time due to an employee's embezzlement.
On the 2nd, An Sun-young released a video titled "Stop, Please" on her YouTube channel "This Is An Sun-young."
In the video, An Sun-young said, "It's not easy being a YouTuber, and that's today's topic. Our PD has caused a stir. I guess I'm famous. I show up on portal sites and the 9 p.m. news. I thought I was someone who illegally escaped the army or secretly immigrated. Based solely on the number of articles, An Sun-young's controversies are skyrocketing to rival BLACKPINK, and I want to summarize the two main controversies.
First, An Sun-young discussed the theme of "An Sun-young is immigrating," saying, "There's a video about packing for Canada with the subtitle 'An Sun-young is leaving Korean soil,' but the PD said, 'These days, YouTube needs a hook,' and created an article about it, but if you look at the content, it's not immigration; it's relocation."
An Sun-young stated, "The situation is that Surbato miraculously made it onto the youth ice hockey team and has hurriedly gone abroad for hockey training, but to be honest, there were many hardships last year. First, my mother suffered a stroke again, and her dementia worsened to the point that she couldn't receive home care. Since it's a small company, we cook lunch every day, and one employee, whom I thought of as family, embezzled a significant amount of company funds. Now, it's under investigation and I'm facing legal charges, with the amount embezzled being hundreds of millions of won, more than a small company like ours can handle. It's not just about the money; we worked together for four years, and of those, three years and seven months were involved in embezzlement. More than the money, I was passionately pursuing my life goal of becoming a professional manager in business when I realized I have no managerial talent, I wasn't a proper daughter, I failed at everything, and if my child went abroad only with their father, I felt I would also fail as a mother."
She continued, "It's not about the high home shopping appearance fee or the benefits I'm receiving; what's most important is spending time with my child as they grow. It was almost too much for one person to handle. Reviewing four years of accounting records and realizing how poor I am as a manager has been challenging. I couldn't even notice that someone I considered family was embezzling for so long, which left me feeling empty. The sense of betrayal is immense, the hurt is great, and I don't even want to go to the company, which created a kind of trauma that made me unable to look at the faces of other innocent employees, so this year's birthday party was deliberately held big since I didn't want to be gloomy all year long."
An Sun-young mentioned, "I can't give up my child, and I also have obligations toward my mother and the people who remain at the company, as well as a minimal obligation to my career and dopamine. So I thought I should come to Korea once a month. This was the intention of the video as a new YouTuber, but the articles came out sensationally. I experienced an unexpected major incident while running my business, and I think it's important to spend time with my child and have time to reset myself especially during such times. I have no intention of immigrating at all. I plan to come and go for about two years to work. I will not immigrate."
An Sun-young also clarified the controversy surrounding the "15 million won appearance fee for an hour on home shopping." She explained, "If you watch the first episode, the PD said, 'I'm a genius at YouTube. The charm is to reveal everything boldly and directly. Let's talk about the appearance fee,' and it was said so abruptly that it appears very much like that now. The title and thumbnail read, 'An Sun-young starts from scratch, letting go of everything after receiving a 15 million won appearance fee for one hour.'"
An Sun-young stated, "It's okay for me to be touched, but if you touch my mom or my son, I won't stay quiet. A certain reporter misinterpreted my SNS and YouTube posts regarding my late move to Canada and absurdly created an article titled 'An Sun-young exposes home shopping celebrity appearance fee.' I started as a YouTuber, but in home shopping, I may be a queen, but here I'm truly starting as nobody with no privileged treatment from scratch based on a video from two years ago. I requested them to make corrections, but they didn't take it down."
An Sun-young explained, "Although it could be said that there's a minor deficit in my personal merit, writing something that's not true is a lie, isn't it? When did I ever expose the appearance fees of other home shopping personalities? My appearance fee of 15 million won is correct. I suppose there was a significant disconnect there. I'll share the facts, not an industry exposure. I'll explain how someone like An Sun-young reached the level of earning 15 million won in one hour."
An Sun-young stated, "I was the first in South Korea to start home shopping. Twenty-three years ago, there were only two channels in South Korea, and the home shopping channel I appeared on was smaller than my current studio and nobody wanted to appear on. A company called me because of that. When I debuted as a public recruit in 2000, I was earning around 30 million won at my previous job but received a monthly salary of only 500,000 won when I debuted as a comedian. I think of it as a practice period receiving only minimal living expenses while striving for my dreams. I did not start off earning 15 million won right away."
She added, "I spent my 20s paying off the debts my mother incurred while raising me as she was busy with her business. At that time, I worked indiscriminately and prepared so diligently that I could have eaten soap on home shopping, which eventually led to a breakthrough. Over 26 years, I have never once been late for a live broadcast or failed to meet goal sales to schedule the next show. I made promises to countless people at firms and channels. Even when I cried from confirming that my first love of five years had cheated, I stayed up all night without sleeping and went on air. I even appeared on home shopping crying when my mom was going into breast cancer surgery. I went on smiling, knowing about the employee's embezzlement. I thought that was my role, and that it was part of my worth."
An Sun-young stated, "Just because I have worked for a long time as a celebrity doesn't mean I am a target for any rumors. I apologize if my straightforwardness, which I consider attractive, was abrupt. I hope you didn't feel a disconnect. The value of my worth over the 26 years I've lived is a story solely for me. After more than 20 years, there tends to be a peak. The most recent value of my built worth is from five to six years ago. It's the amount formed after selling over 1 trillion won, and I will work harder to return the value equivalent to the position I occupy to everyone."
Meanwhile, An Sun-young debuted as a comedian through MBC's 11th public recruit in 2000. She married a businessman who is three years younger in 2013, and in 2016, she welcomed her son.
