Na Sang-hyun, of the band 'Na Sang-hyun's Band,' who was embroiled in allegations of sexual harassment, posted a follow-up message regarding his reversal of position and sought clarification.
On the 1st, Na Sang-hyun stated on his blog, "Because there have been many things happening, even though it is just a day before I meet you through the performance, I want to convey my sincere feelings in writing first, so I am leaving this message."
Previously, in May, an accusation was made in an online community that Na Sang-hyun had sexually harassed someone. It was claimed that Na Sang-hyun touched the thighs of a woman next to him while pretending to be drunk at a drinking gathering.
As the controversy grew, Na Sang-hyun stated through his social account, "I sincerely apologize to the writer and to those who may have felt discomfort or unpleasantness due to my past actions. I caused harm to the writer under circumstances where I do not remember specific details after drinking in the past," and he added, "I have reflected deeply after being criticized for my behavior while drinking about 3 or 4 years ago. I've received help from those around me and continuously tried to improve the issue. I will reflect more deeply and make efforts to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future."
Initially, the accusation was dismissed as a rumor due to a lack of evidence, but following Na Sang-hyun's apology, public opinion tilted toward the idea that the accusation might be true. In response, Na Sang-hyun corrected his statement through his agency, Renewal, about a week later on June 2, saying, "I posted a statement based on moral responsibility even though the facts had not been thoroughly confirmed," and he clarified, "Upon carefully reviewing the situation, I declare that the actions mentioned in the post are not true."
Na Sang-hyun also mentioned that the period referred to as "3 or 4 years ago" was meant to describe "the period when my alcohol consumption increased, and I have been reviewing and improving my lifestyle habits." However, his belated reversal further fueled suspicion, leading Na Sang-hyun to post an additional message to clarify.
Na Sang-hyun said, "I believe many of you were confused by my written message following the earlier report, as well as the subsequent official statements from my agency and performance resumption notices. When I first saw the report, I was definitely aware of facts that I did not know, but I had fears about the situation escalating and worries about whether there were things I did not realize. Regarding these types of matters, I have always thought that it is important to listen more closely to the voice of the informant, and before confirming the facts, I thought it was the most proper action for me to show an attitude of apology first."
He stated, "After closely reviewing the previous times with my agency and confirming the authenticity of the information, I have concluded that the report contents are not true. However, in a situation where many people had already accepted the report as established facts, I was afraid that my hasty statements might lead to further misunderstandings and criticisms, and I couldn't relay this easily. I deeply apologize for making you wait for a long time and for the hurt suffered in silence."
He added, "Continuing my activities again is emotionally challenging for me, but I believe that it should not end as misunderstandings become facts. Considering the pain I caused and the support you have sent until now, I concluded that it is right to meet you once more. Although it may take some time for everyone to return to the same state of mind as before, I hope that things will gradually improve, and I will do my best. I sincerely apologize for causing confusion and pain through my immature handling, and I hope to meet you again one day with positive feelings."
Meanwhile, Na Sang-hyun's Band will conduct a national tour titled 'Summer Light 2025' in Gwangju and Jeonju on August 2 and 3.
The full statement from Na Sang-hyun is as follows.
Hello, I am Na Sang-hyun.
Because there have been many things happening, even though it is just a day before I meet you through the performance, I want to convey my sincere feelings in writing first, so I am leaving this message.
I believe many of you were confused by my written message following the earlier report, as well as the subsequent official statements from my agency and performance resumption notices. When I first saw the report, I was definitely aware of facts that I did not know, but I had fears about the situation escalating and worries about whether there were things I did not realize. Regarding these types of matters, I have always thought that it is important to listen more closely to the voice of the informant, and before confirming the facts, I thought it was the most proper action for me to show an attitude of apology first.
After closely reviewing the previous times with my agency and confirming the authenticity of the information, I have concluded that the report contents are not true. However, in a situation where many people had already accepted the report as established facts, I was afraid that my hasty statements might lead to further misunderstandings and criticisms, and I couldn't relay this easily. I deeply apologize for making you wait for a long time and for the hurt suffered in silence.
In the desperate feeling of not being able to face people again, I continued to contemplate whether it was right to keep myself locked up because of something I did not do. Continuing my activities again is emotionally challenging for me, but I believe that it should not end as misunderstandings become facts. Considering the pain I caused and the support you have sent until now, I concluded that it is right to meet you once more. Although it may take some time for everyone to return to the same state of mind as before, I hope that things will gradually improve, and I will do my best. I sincerely apologize for causing confusion and pain through my immature handling, and I hope to meet you again one day with positive feelings.
Thank you.
