PD Choi Byung-gil made a clarification regarding the debt owed to his ex-wife Seo Yu-ri.
On the 1st, PD Choi Byung-gil posted a lengthy message on his social account, saying, "I want to clarify the misunderstandings about me that have been circulating."
He said, "The debt owed to Ms. Seo Yu-ri was not used by me personally, but it was related to the 'Rona Universe' business, in which Ms. Seo Yu-ri and I hold 50:50 equity." He added, "Of course, I also invested a lot of my personal funds, and due to the deterioration of the business management, I have currently reached a state of bankruptcy."
Earlier, PD Choi Byung-gil registered his marriage with voice actor and broadcaster Seo Yu-ri in 2019, but announced their divorce in March of last year after five years. Following that, the debt conflict between the two came to light, and Seo Yu-ri stated that she accrued debts totaling 2 billion won after the divorce, and recently indicated that she had repaid 1.3 billion won of that amount.
PD Choi Byung-gil also conveyed news of his bankruptcy and, in a phone conversation with OSEN, expressed his intention to responsibly return the money he agreed to pay to Ms. Seo Yu-ri during the divorce process.
In this context, it seems that PD Choi Byung-gil wrote to clarify that the debt was not for personal use, but arose from the operation of Rona Universe, which he co-founded with Seo Yu-ri.
He emphasized, "While the equity was shared equally, I became fully responsible for the business liabilities, and as a result, my house in Yeouido was sold for a low price. My house in Yongsan had to be put up for auction," adding, "In any case, I am trying to faithfully repay the debt I owe to Ms. Seo Yu-ri. Ultimately, I want to clarify once again that I did not misuse Ms. Seo Yu-ri's money to create this situation."
