The passionate performances of Yum Jung-ah and Won Jina in "The Defects" have become a hot topic on home screens.
In the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama "The Defects" (directed by Oh Gi-hwan / written by Ahn So-jung / produced by Group Eight and Take One Studio), which premiered on July 21, Yum Jung-ah plays Kim Se-hee, who is on the surface a respected celebrity in the medical field but is actually the de facto leader of an illegal adoption trafficking organization. Won Jina plays Kim Ah-hyun, a leader of the children who were refunded after being adopted but dramatically survived.
Currently, "The Defects" has aired up to the fourth episode and has been recording steadily rising viewership ratings, thanks to the actors' performances, despite a somewhat polarizing setup involving an illegal adoption cartel prior to its start. At the center of it are actors Yum Jung-ah and Won Jina.
Yum Jung-ah has fully immersed herself in the role of the absolute evil Kim Se-hee, exuding a strong presence with her restrained gaze, chilling expressions, and perfect diction. Under a twisted belief that only superior and useful genes should survive, "Se-hee" is a cold character who will not hesitate to engage in unethical acts such as illegal adoptions and egg retrieval to achieve her goals. In particular, at the end of the fourth episode, after the shocking revelation that Se-hee is the mother who refunded Ah-hyun, she coldly delivers the line, "Ah-hyun, my daughter. How have you been? What if you come back here? You should have died then," which left viewers frozen in shock alongside Yum Jung-ah's high-level acting skills.
Meanwhile, Won Jina is setting a new personal record with her role as "Kim Ah-hyun," the leader of the children who were refunded after being adopted but survived. Despite being her first time attempting action performance, she skillfully executes swift and precise actions while also conveying delicate emotions, firmly supporting the center of the plot. Especially, the thrilling chases and action scenes with Kim Jin-young (played by Jung Hyun) intensify the drama's tension and engagement. In the fourth episode, Ah-hyun gets closer to the horrific reality of the secret organization run by Se-hee, raising expectations for Won Jina's upcoming performance.
"The Defects" will air its fifth episode on the 4th at 10 p.m., and it can also be enjoyed exclusively on the OTT platform TVING.
