Rapper and actor Yang Dong-geun attended an event hosted by a pastor who supported the state of emergency and has been embroiled in controversy, while his agency clarified there was no political intent.
On the 1st, Yang Dong-geun uploaded a video on his social account with the biblical phrase "Wash it whiter than snow".
The video featured Yang Dong-geun performing at a church event. Yang Dong-geun expressed his faith while singing hymns on stage.
In fact, Yang Dong-geun is well-known as a devout Christian and has consistently participated in faith activities such as church events. Recently, he also lent his voice to the dubbing of the animated film 'The King of Kings', showcasing his voice acting skills.
However, concerns were raised due to the fact that the event was hosted by Pastor Son Hyeon-bo, who led the 'Save Korea' rally last year opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and supporting the state of emergency. Additionally, he has sparked controversy by spreading conspiracy theories, such as those about election fraud.
Amid this, internet users engaged in heated discussions about Yang Dong-geun participating in the event hosted by Pastor Son Hyeon-bo. While some argued that it was a religious activity unrelated to the pastor's political stance, others expressed disappointment, saying, "Isn't this a political statement?"
In relation to this, on the 1st, an official from Yang Dong-geun's agency, Jo Entertainment, explained to OSEN, "Yang Dong-geun only thinks of the Lord. He is a person with pure faith who goes wherever there is a gathering to praise God."
His participation in this event was also stated to be simply because it was a Christian event, unrelated to political inclinations. The official emphasized, "I hope there are no misunderstandings about any political intentions."
Meanwhile, Yang Dong-geun, who began as a child actor, gained global popularity by appearing in Netflix's original series 'Squid Game' Season 2 and 3. He is currently confirmed to appear in the film 'Starlight Falls' and the Disney+ drama 'The Manipulated'.
