Can Kim Min-kyu fill the void left by Cha Eun-woo?
Kim Min-kyu will play the role of Ryu Bo-hyun, the son of Ryu Jeong-seok (played by Park Hae-joon) and a confident young farmer, in the new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama "Love, Take Two," which is set to premiere on Aug. 4. This work depicts a story of first love that is not about an end but rather about living for happiness today, as single mom Lee Ji-an (played by Yum Jung-ah) and her medical student daughter Lee Hyori (played by Choi Yoon-ji) unexpectedly enter the second act of their lives.
Ryu Bo-hyun, played by Kim Min-kyu, is a decent young man who has been cultivating a floral farm for six years after finding what he wants to do early on. However, new feelings begin to blossom when Lee Hyori parks her camper in front of his house. With his warm visuals, Kim Min-kyu is expected to captivate viewers this summer with his fresh charm.
From a youthful romance with Choi Yoon-ji to the chemistry with Park Hae-joon, Kim Min-kyu's portrayal in "Love, Take Two" is highly anticipated. At an online press conference held on the 30th, Kim Min-kyu expressed his confidence in the project, saying, "When you think of first love couples in summer 2025, I hope it will be Hyori and Bo-hyun. For the excitement of first love this summer."
Director Yoo Je-won, who is in charge of the production, also exhibits great confidence. He particularly praised Kim Min-kyu's visuals, stating, "When I saw Kim Min-kyu, I promised myself not to be swayed by that appearance. I thought he might be lacking in acting because of those looks, but he did remarkably well. It was unexpected. His attitude was also upright, tidy, and good. He did excellently. His gaze when he looks at people is very good. When Kim Min-kyu smiles, the staff also smiles."
Kim Min-kyu appeared as a trainee from Jellyfish Entertainment on the Mnet show "Produce X 101," which ended in July 2019, and quickly captured the attention of the national producers with his handsome visuals. Although he regrettably did not debut with X1 after being eliminated in the final stage, he has steadily worked as an actor, gradually building his skills.
If Kim Min-kyu successfully portrays Ryu Bo-hyun, he could rapidly emerge as an ace to fill the visual void left by Cha Eun-woo, who has enlisted. This is particularly noteworthy since director Yoo Je-won, who has worked with stars like Lee Jay-hoon, Jo Jung-suk, Kim Seon-ho, Jung Kyung-ho, and Jung Haein in productions such as "Tomorrow With You," "Oh My Ghost," "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha," "Crash Course in Romance," and "Mom's Friend's Son," has notably praised Kim Min-kyu's visuals.
Park Hae-joon, who plays the father role in the drama, also smiled broadly at the compliment that Kim Min-kyu resembles him. We will find out on Aug. 4 whether Kim Min-kyu will rise as a first-love visual actor through "Love, Take Two."
