Comedian Jeong Gyeong-mi has embarked on a new challenge. She has started a second life as the director of an "English musical academy."
On the 30th, a video titled "What is the secret to Jeong Gyeong-mi's success after quitting as a comedian and becoming the director of an English academy? (Jang Young-ran's housewarming party)" was released on the YouTube channel "A-Grade Jang Young-ran." In the video, Jeong Gyeong-mi went to a shopping center in Songdo with Jang Young-ran, saying, "It's humble, but it's my new business site. This is truly an establishment that doesn't suit me at all, an English musical academy."
The academy operated by Jeong Gyeong-mi stood out in scale. Upon seeing it, Jang Young-ran remarked, "She has succeeded. The view is great, and aren't the kids doing musicals here?" expressing her admiration.
Jang Young-ran laughed, saying she learned about the academy's news through Jeong Gyeong-mi's social media, noting, "My son has been taking English. He didn't read the messages, so he didn't know you had opened it." Jeong Gyeong-mi jokingly noted that after the academy's opening, many acquaintances, including Shim Jin-hwa and Hyang-gi, visited or sent gifts, but Jang Young-ran had not contacted her at all. She added, "One day, someone who came to the academy said they are Jang Young-ran's sister-in-law and acquaintances. That's how I found out." Jang Young-ran was surprised, saying, "Really, my sister-in-law must know. I didn't even know."
Jeong Gyeong-mi explained that her reason for starting the academy was, "I can't speak English. I'm just managing. Much better teachers than me teach the children," adding, "Musical encompasses dancing, singing, and acting. Nowadays, there are many kids among my friends who cannot even introduce themselves properly. It's a program that's really good for their developmental process, so I thought about how to appeal more to the parents and decided to incorporate English."
She further stated, "I wonder if this is the terminal point of what I've done until now. For 20 years in broadcasting, I've always been tense, but there's none of that here. Planning is fun, and coming to the academy makes me happy," she commented with a smile.
Meanwhile, Jeong Gyeong-mi married fellow comedian Yoon Hyung-bin in 2013 after an eight-year romance and has one son and one daughter.
