(Following Interview ①) The producers of 'Better Late Than Single' mentioned the 'steamy' date scene of Jeongmok and Jiyeon.
On the 31st, an interview with producers Jo Wook-hyung, Kim No-eun, and Won Seung-jae of the Netflix variety show 'Better Late Than Single' took place at a cafe in Jongno, Seoul.
'Better Late Than Single' is a makeover reality dating show that assists late bloomers in navigating their first romantic experiences, and it concluded with the release of its finale on the 29th.
In particular, the Jeongmok-Jiyeon couple stirred up attention when they engaged in intimate skinship in bed just a day after confirming their feelings for each other during their 1-night, 2-day date.
In this regard, producer Kim No-eun noted, "We didn't specifically give the two a 1-night, 2-day date privilege; we originally had three locations arranged. However, it was unexpected that only the first couple appeared. Consequently, it seems there was more focus on that couple. We set up the locations, but regarding what happens, I can't speak on that. Please view it as events that occurred naturally within that setting."
Furthermore, regarding the 'reason for not editing,' producer Kim said, "I thought it was natural for individuals in their late 20s to start dating. Plus, since it's a dating show, that clear emotional expression is natural. I thought we should honestly showcase their feelings without adding or subtracting anything."
Additionally, she conveyed, "In the case of 'Single's Inferno' and other dating programs, there have also been kiss scenes. Being a late bloomer seems to have shocked viewers even more. But the participants are not minors; they are adults. In our first romance, don't we all go through such a process?"
She also reflected, "We received prior notice and consent. They were informed that what occurs in front of the camera could be aired, and everyone agreed. Emotions don't always follow a script. Also, since they were filmed from the makeup process, it seems to have come out more naturally during the retreat."
Producer Jo Wook-hyung said, "It would be good if viewers understand that, since they are also late bloomers, the emotions may have ignited quickly. While editing, we did not feel 'this is strange.' When you fall in love, such feelings naturally arise, and it's a matter of timing. Revealing this was new, and it should allow viewers to see that 'this can happen.'"
Producer Won Seung-jae also remarked, "When we arranged the 1-night, 2-day date, I couldn't predict what episodes would unfold. I even anticipated scenarios where they would sleep separately or merely have cute moments. However, deep emotions truly surfaced," he said hesitantly. "But isn't that correct? If you think about it without the camera, that's not bad behavior."
When asked, 'Were there any skinship beyond kissing?' all the producers firmly stated, "There was nothing more than that." Producer Jo emphasized, "We once mentioned that this is a dating show without rules, and what surprised us was how suddenly it escalated. That was a bit shocking. However, I hope that even that can be viewed beautifully in hindsight."
