Shin-Soo Choo will take on the role of director for Channel A's new entertainment program 'Baseball Queen,' set to launch in November.
Channel A's new entertainment show 'Baseball Queen' is a sports variety show where 'legendary female athletes' (former players) from different sports challenge themselves on the unfamiliar stage of 'baseball.' Female cast members, who are 'former players' unfamiliar even with the rules of baseball, will join a women's baseball team and portray a real growth story as they prepare for actual matches through rigorous training filled with blood, sweat, and dust.
Above all, 'Baseball Queen' is a program planned and produced in collaboration between Director Shin Jae-ho, who directed Channel A's franchise entertainment 'Steel Unit W,' and writer Kang Suk-kyung, who handled 'Steel Unit W' and seasons 1 and 2 of 'Physical 100,' generating great anticipation among sports entertainment fans. There is keen interest in the birth of a new 'female sports narrative' that will surpass the strong narratives of female soldiers shown in 'Steel Unit W.'
Selected to lead the players as a director is Shin-Soo Choo, a former Major League Baseball All-Star with an outstanding career. As an icon of challenge, perseverance, and success, he was regarded as the ideal mentor for players about to embark on a new challenge and actively received a call for the director position, which he accepted after careful consideration. Above all, Shin-Soo Choo decided to participate in this project sincerely in order to raise social interest in the rapidly growing women's baseball team amid the baseball craze, which surpassed 10 million spectators.
The production team of 'Baseball Queen' stated, "Shin-Soo Choo agreed to take on the director role after much consideration, resonating with the project aim of expanding 'women's baseball.'" They added, "Shin-Soo Choo, who is currently serving as an advisor to the owner of SSG Landers and overseeing development, has coordinated with the team in advance regarding the filming schedule, utilizing personal days off when there are no team obligations to ensure that there are no disruptions to team affairs." The SSG team also expressed their agreement that this project could contribute to the proliferation and activation of women's baseball, cooperating with the appearance and scheduling.
'Baseball Queen,' which aims to open a new horizon for 'female sports narratives' through the growth of the women's baseball team led by Director Shin-Soo Choo, will first air in November.
