Actress Lee Na-eun met her long-missed mother.
In the recent episodes 3-4 of the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects' (written by Ahn So-jung, directed by Oh Gi-hwan, produced by Group Eight and Take One Studio), the story unfolded as the children took a step closer to the reality of illegal adoption.
Earlier, Somi (Lee Na-eun) visited her father Han Cheol-soo (Lim Jae-myung), who owned the card, to uncover the truth of the illegal adoption business. After a series of threats, Somi and the children obtained the location of her mother and the membership card, sending evidence of Han Cheol-soo's wrongdoings to a group chat that included all of his acquaintances, thus severing their past ties.
In the midst of this, Somi received a call from her mother and was thrown into confusion. It appeared that her mother, under the surveillance of the organization, was intentionally acting as if she were in contact with Han Cheol-soo. Listening to her mother's voice while sobbing, Somi's expression evoked sympathy. Later, although Somi went with the children to save her mother, they were unable to rescue her due to the oncoming organization members and were left frustrated.
While tracking the movements of the organization members, the children discovered the trading site for adoption transactions. Witnessing the horrific act of buying and selling, even of newborns, the children were shocked to learn how their parents had become parents. They were also horrified to find out that in the research complex, they were selecting good and bad DNA to create the children they desired.
In this way, Lee Na-eun effectively portrayed the inner turmoil of her character, oscillating between the unwavering firmness of cutting ties with her father and the despair after failing to save her mother. Especially the tears shed in front of her finally encountered mother conveyed the longing and sorrow that Somi had felt, leaving a poignant impression.
