In the Netflix series 'Trigger,' Kim Nam-gil described Son Bo-seung, the son of Lee Kyung-sil and his junior, as "a hardworking and promising friend."
On the morning of the 29th, an interview with Kim Nam-gil, the lead actor of Netflix's 'Trigger,' took place at a cafe in Seoul's Sogyeok-dong.
'Trigger' tells the story of two men who take up arms for their own reasons, amid the delivery of illegal firearms of unknown origin and the incessant occurrence of gun-related incidents in Korea. It is an action thriller that features the concept of firearms being delivered via parcel, as if it were part of everyday life in a country where firearms are illegal.
Kim Nam-gil plays Lee Do, a police officer who takes up arms again to uphold justice and save someone. Having previously served as a military sniper, he understands the duality of firearms better than anyone. When incidents involving illegal firearms arise, he struggles to convince people to put down their weapons. After finishing 'The Fiery Priest 2' on SBS last year, he quickly presented a new work, marking his return to Netflix after two years since 'Thieves: The Sound of the Sword' in 2023.
Regarding his choice to participate, he said, "The planning was good. You might wonder, 'How could this setup be possible?' But in our country, thanks to the military, people can handle firearms. If this work goes global, people might question, 'Why can men in this country handle guns?' I'm curious about how it will be received in Korea as well, where defense is a duty. It's fascinating to think about how people will react to those who carry firearms in our country."
He continued, "Korean men have a lot of information about guns from a young age due to games and other media. Nonetheless, access to firearms has been approached sensitively. Everyone knows a lot about guns, so it's crucial not to provide any incorrect information, and the production team has made careful efforts to avoid raising barriers."
Kim Nam-gil worked for the first time with Kim Young-kwang, and this work also features Son Bo-seung, the son of comedian Lee Kyung-sil, who made a brief but memorable appearance. He plays the role of Seo Young-dong, a victim of school violence, who turns to a character that causes a shooting incident while suffering from bullying.
Kim Nam-gil remarked, "I also found out midway through filming (about actor Son Bo-seung). He came to the local filming site for a short period of 2-3 days to shoot, while also doing delivery work and part-time jobs. I felt he was a hardworking friend," adding, "As an actor, he had great absorbing power. He doesn't know whether he's matching or not, so he would ask if his direction was okay. When I listened to his questions and talked to him, he absorbed it quickly. I feel he possesses great potential for the future."
Meanwhile, 'Trigger' was released worldwide in over 190 countries via Netflix on the 25th.
