Actor Yoon Gi-won revealed the behind-the-scenes story of how he left comedy to debut as a talent.
On the 27th, a video titled 'The legendary KBS Class of 7 alumni meeting' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Jo Dongari'. In the video, actor Yoon Gi-won and Choi Seung-gyeong appeared as guests and showcased their lively banter with MCs Ji Seok-jin, Kim Yong-man, and Kim Soo-yong. Yoon Gi-won was part of the 7th KBS public recruitment comedians class, which included Kim Gook-jin, Kim Yong-man, Yoo Jae-suk, Choi Seung-gyeong, Kim Soo-yong, Park Soo-hong, and Nam Hee-seok, and was referred to as the 'legendary class'. Having debut again as part of the 6th SBS public recruitment talent class, Yoon Gi-won bragged about his unique career by noting, "I am the only one in Korea who left comedy to become a talent."
Kim Soo-yong recalled, "I still remember the day Yoon Gi-won quit comedy. He came to me, saying, 'Hyung, I'm going to quit today,' and then he went home and didn't come back," sharing memories of the day Yoon Gi-won left KBS. Yoon Gi-won explained, "It was a time when I was contemplating whether to continue as a comedian or take on a new challenge. I wanted to challenge myself while I was still young so I wouldn't regret it as I got older."
Amidst his struggles contemplating a new challenge versus continuing as a comedian, Yoon Gi-won returned to the broadcasting company. However, he felt, "Did I really spend a long time thinking for this?" and he firmed his resolve to quit comedy. On that day, a junior, Kim Suk, greeted Yoon Gi-won with, 'Hello, senior,' to which Yoon Gi-won replied, "I'm not your senior," and ran out, marking that day as the last day Yoon Gi-won was remembered by Kim Soo-yong. After doing manual labor, Yoon Gi-won revealed a behind-the-scenes story about how he was able to transition to being a talent by receiving help from late senior comedian Kim Hyung-gon while doing musicals and passing the SBS talent public recruitment exam.
Meanwhile, Yoon Gi-won also shared updates after remarrying. Yoon Gi-won, who remarried a professor of model studies 11 years his junior in November 2023, playfully noted, "You should try marriage twice. It's great," causing Ji Seok-jin, Kim Yong-man, and Kim Soo-yong to be taken aback by his spicy advice. Yoon Gi-won first met his wife through an introduction in February 2022, stating, "Shortly after we met, my wife told me she had also been divorced. After meeting a few more times, she mentioned she had a son who was 11 years old at that time. I thanked her for telling me early on." When Yoon Gi-won had lost his father just about two months after meeting his wife, she stood by him and helped, leading to a natural introduction to family and friends. Yoon Gi-won revealed, "The child was living separately with my wife's family, but I told her that when we get married, we should bring the child with us," implying that preparations for marriage were underway naturally.
Subsequently, Yoon Gi-won successfully remarried his 11-year-younger wife and revealed that he is currently undergoing the 'adoption of a biological child' process. Yoon Gi-won shared, "They say that the adoption of a biological child is not easy to get permission for procedurally. However, once the adoption process is finished, the 'application for name change' is easy," showing his proactive efforts to become one family with his wife and son. Ji Seok-jin acknowledged Yoon Gi-won's charming side, saying, "He may seem tough on the outside, but he's a warm-hearted man."
Additionally, Yoon Gi-won has recently launched a new YouTube channel called 'Siksunbi' to introduce restaurants across the nation and showcase his eating broadcasts.
