On the 29th, Choi Yena held a showcase for her fourth mini-album 'Blooming Wings' at Bluesquare SOL Travel Hall in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
This comeback is about 10 months since the release of her third single "Neomo Neomo" in September last year. During that time, Choi Yena challenged her first formal acting role by appearing in KBS2's "Villains Everywhere," showcasing her potential as an actress, and gained attention by featuring in a song by BTS Jin. Furthermore, she is actively engaging in variety shows and advertisements, coloring the entire world with her persona.
Amid these activities, the neologism "Yena Core" emerged. It is a term that transcends the previously shown "Yena genre." While it may sound unfamiliar, it is understandable in the context that it represents a genre unique to Choi Yena.
Regarding "Yena Core," Choi Yena scratched her head and laughed, saying, "It's a word created by the company." Although the situation could have been approached differently, her honest expression of her thoughts and circumstances was exactly what it means to be "Yena-like."
Choi Yena stated about "Yena Core," "Yena Core is a realm that can only be handled by Yena, needing no further explanation. It feels like it has a distinct character, which I really love," and the MC Jaegyeong added that it is a genre that only the unique presence of Choi Yena can embody.
Choi Yena's fourth mini-album 'Blooming Wings' is filled with narratives of love and growth showcased in a way that is most characteristic of her. The raw emotions of first love, blooming like angel's wings, and the moment of first heartbreak experienced in an alley during an unexpected rain, are all reinterpreted through Choi Yena's unique sensibility.
Regarding the new album that contains the essence of "Yena Core," Choi Yena explained, "When I thought about it in terms of performance, I wanted it to feel like watching a musical, with points that resemble a scene from an animation. I wanted to create a new feeling that seemed fun at first glance, giving a sense of variety, so we held a lot of meetings. I hope many people enjoy the stage and provide diverse feedback," adding, "From the first line, it is a song that embodies a pure desire to be a good and kind person to the one I love, and a story of growth filled with pain after a breakup."
The music video was completed with support from '10 million actor' Lee Dohyun. Choi Yena shared, "Since we are from the same agency, I wanted to ask for Lee Dohyun's opinion. He was in military service at the time, but he said it was great, and shortly after he was discharged, I was very grateful that he appeared in the music video as his first schedule." She continued, "I know what it feels like to be in my own music video, but with Lee Dohyun, it became like a movie. I really felt the difference while filming, and it filled me with emotion and gratitude."
It has been three years since she debuted as a solo artist, and now Choi Yena is looking further and higher. She expressed, "Since it's an album coming out after 10 months, I hope many people listen to it and share good stories. I am grateful for being busy this year, and I want to show everyone who has patiently waited for my album that I understand why it took 10 months. I will work hard in this activity, spreading Yena's wings."
