Moon Hee-jun opened up about his complex feelings regarding his father while simultaneously confessing family matters.
On the 28th, he appeared on Channel A's "Close Friends Documentary - A Table for Four" after receiving an invitation from actor Kim Jung-tae.
That day, Moon Hee-jun said, "Having had a child makes it harder to understand my father." He mentioned that his father left home a month after his debut. He noted, "He said, 'You have the financial means, so I will leave.' He really did leave. I understood at that time. I thought it was before I got married, and I wondered if he had a bad relationship with my mother. Since children cannot control their parents," he said.
Moon Hee-jun added, "I accidentally became a teenage breadwinner. I started taking on the father role at 19. I lived that way until I got married and had a child. So, it becomes harder to understand. I can't understand leaving a child behind, and I started to get angrier. I was struggling at that time."
Earlier, Moon Hee-jun mentioned his father for the first time in 2007 on a variety show. At that time, he revealed that his father worked as a guitarist in a live café, stating, "I have never been ashamed of my father. He has not given up on his dream of being a guitarist and has maintained his dedication to music. I am proud of my father and have been greatly influenced by him."
Moon Hee-jun also mentioned that his father reached out after he received criticism for releasing rock music. He said, "After the divorce, my father didn't contact me at all, but after I debuted as a solo artist and released 'Air on the G String,' receiving a lot of criticism and having a hard time, he suddenly called. My father said, 'Honestly, it's natural that people can't understand you doing rock music.'
He continued, "Since you gained great love with H.O.T., people can't help but think you suddenly changed your music; they can't know that you have always liked rock. But seeing you sing, I can tell you really enjoy it, and that gave me courage."
However, he no longer has any contact with him. Park Kyung-rim asked if he still contacts his father, and Moon Hee-jun replied, "I can't. I contacted him once because I suddenly wanted to see him. My mother found out and got angry."
In addition, Moon Hee-jun said, "A few years ago, my mother passed away. I delivered the news personally, but he didn't even attend the funeral. I couldn't understand that more. I try to be a good father to my children, but things might not go well, right? I want to be a dad who is there for them. That's why I'm at home a lot, but my wife is yelling at me to leave."
Moon Hee-jun expressed his heartfelt feelings toward his children, stating, "I started my singing career already in debt. When I debuted, I lived in a house without a bathroom. Starting from there, when I look for a house, I check for one with a bathroom in the children's room. I made the daughter's room into one with a bathroom."
Meanwhile, Moon Hee-jun married Crayon Pop's So-yul, 13 years his junior, in 2017 and has one son and one daughter.
