(Following interview 1) Director Phil Gam-seong of "My Daughter is a Zombie" shared his collaboration with Yoon Kyung-ho.
On the 29th, an interview with Director Phil Gam-seong of the film "My Daughter is a Zombie" took place at a café in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The movie "My Daughter is a Zombie" (directed by Phil Gam-seong, distributed by NEW, produced by Studio N) is a comedic drama about a dad, who is a doting father, entering into top-secret training to protect his daughter, who has become the last zombie in the world.
On that day, Director Phil Gam-seong mentioned the casting behind the scenes, saying, "Ms. Jo Yeo-jung and Mr. Yoon Kyung-ho had no prior connection (before the project)." He added, "As we were developing the character of Yeonhwa, I wondered who could portray her quirky yet serious and cute aspects in the most cheerful way. A line from the movie 'Parasite' came to mind: 'Is there no zombie to kill?' when I matched that line, I thought it would be great if Ms. Yeo-jung could deliver it."
He continued, "Honestly, I thought Ms. Yeo-jung wouldn't take the role because the amount of lines didn't fit. But I sent her a letter like a love letter, and she responded the fastest. So I joked, 'Don't lie!' at that time."
In particular, regarding an anecdote about how he restrained Yoon Kyung-ho's ad-libs on set, Director Phil said, "There's a funny episode. When Mr. Kyung-ho first met me, he requested a meeting. He wanted to understand my thoughts on comedy. I told him, 'I really like you, Kyung-ho. But we want to present a different kind of comedy.' He responded, 'That sounds great. I will refrain from ad-libbing and keep it simple.' Then, we high-fived."
He added, "However, Mr. Kyung-ho is the kind of person who prepares thoroughly. Ironically, the first shoot was the Thor transformation scene. Of all things. It was like a divine intervention, he had tremendous enthusiasm. So, I had to say, 'Hey, Kyung-ho, you remember what we discussed, right?'" and he laughed.
He said, "That's still an episode we humorously refer to. I want to see a new side of Kyung-ho that fits this movie, which is about healing and family in the countryside, a warm film. I wanted to find and see a face that matched that energy."
