Today (29th) at 10 p.m., TV CHOSUN's 'Modern Personal History Mr. Lee' will spotlight the stories of representatives of South Korea who graduated from the world-renowned Harvard University.
The story of Hong Jung-wook, a former member of the National Assembly and the most famous Korean graduate of Harvard, who is also the son of actor Namgoong Won, will be shared. He idolized John F. Kennedy in his childhood and went to study in the United States at the age of 15, but reportedly memorized entire textbooks due to his insufficient English skills. When MC Han Seung-yeon noted, "I also went to study abroad in New Jersey early," MC Lee Kyung-kyu joked, "It's New Jersey because it's (lower) than New York~," eliciting laughter.
Meanwhile, Hong Jung-wook, who majored in East Asian studies at Harvard, made headlines by publishing a book titled 'Act 7, Chapter 7' recounting his study abroad experiences. After graduating from Stanford Law School, he successfully acquired a media company, leading to his election as a member of the National Assembly in 2008. Behind his success was the dedication of his father, Namgoong Won. Updates about Hong Jung-wook, who continues to take on new challenges in the fields of environment and education after retiring from politics, will be shared.
Professor Geum Nana cannot be overlooked either. In 2002, she became the first Miss Korea from a medical student. After dropping out of medical school, she enrolled at Harvard just five months later. Initially struggling due to her lack of English skills, she eventually earned the 'Ditor Award' given to the top 10% of students. While she possesses both intelligence and beauty, she says, "The process of adapting to life at Harvard was like a nightmare." The fierce adaptation story of 'effort-type genius' Geum Nana will be revealed.
On another note, reports have emerged that last year, Geum Nana secretly married Yun Il-jeong, the chairman of MDI Leisure Development, seven years ago. Their registered birth years are 1957 and 1983, respectively, marking a 26-year age gap. Chairman Yun is said to have raised his only daughter alone after the death of his first wife before remarrying Professor Geum Nana.
Chairman Yun Il-jeong is known as a lend in the construction industry, holding 11 subsidiaries under MDI Leisure Development. Geum Nana was selected as Miss Korea while studying at Kyungpook National University in 2002. She later went to the U.S. to study biology at Harvard, and she obtained her master's degree in nutrition from Columbia University, followed by a doctoral degree in nutrition and epidemiology from Harvard. She has been serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology at Dongguk University since August 2017, and recently, she was appointed as the head of the university's Science Gifted Education Center. In 2020, she appeared on MBC's 'Is Studying Money?' and shared her pleasant recent updates.
We can also catch up with the updates on Rhee Syng-man, the first Korean to receive a master's degree from Harvard Graduate School, and Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan of Hanwha, who is known as the 'six-sided man of the business world' due to his excellent grades, athletic skills, and leadership. Additionally, we will hear updates on Bom Kim, the chairman of Coupang, and Lee Jun-seok, a politician from the National Assembly who graduated from Harvard.
