Oh My Girl member and actress Arin shared her aspirations as an actress.
Arin met with reporters on the 28th at Post Tower in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to discuss the Wavve original drama 'S-Line' (written and directed by Ahn Joo-young).
'S-Line' is a fantasy thriller that begins to reveal forbidden desires and hidden truths as the red line, known as the S-Line, appears between people in sexual relationships. Based on the webtoon of the same name by popular webtoon artist Kkomabi, it has received a hot response, ranking first among new paid subscriptions on Wavve for 14 consecutive days since its premiere on the 11th. Notably, it won the music award in the long-form competition at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival.
Having debuted with Oh My Girl while balancing her acting career, Arin has been recognized as an actress through dramas such as 'Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow', 'Alchemy of Souls', and 'Summer, Love Machine Blues'. Playing the role of a high school student, 'Hyun-heup', who can see the S-Line from birth, Arin portrayed the complex inner world of a character living in isolation from the world under the unique setting of a red line connecting people in sexual relationships, giving a sense of depth beyond simple genre work and creating an immersive character.
Arin noted that it was impressive to be part of the Cannes International Series Festival through 'S-Line'. She said, "I was so excited and couldn't believe it even before going to Cannes. I wondered how I could be going to Cannes, but it was such a precious and valuable experience. Even while being there, I thought about whether I could come back to this place again, so I wanted to cherish it and make sure I had no regrets, spending grateful time with the director and fellow actors."
Particularly, her friendly fan service during the red carpet event grabbed attention. Looking back at that time, Arin said, "I was very nervous because it was my first time in such a big setting. I was so grateful to the fans, but I felt like I shouldn't go, which made me hesitate. However, when I saw senior actor Lee Su-hyuk approaching, I hurriedly went and greeted the fans. I have seen many related stories, and I am very thankful that they viewed it beautifully."
At the start of her serious acting career, Arin met 'S-Line'. And after signing an exclusive contract with ATRP, she gained great strength for a new beginning. However, this raises concerns among fans of Oh My Girl about whether she can balance her singing and acting activities. Arin expressed, "Balancing activities as both an Oh My Girl member and an actress can sometimes be difficult. However, I believe I have done my best to continue both singing and acting, so I cherish both and cannot choose just one."
After 10 years of activity as the group's maknae, receiving much love, Arin has been perceived as a 'being to be protected', hence receiving strict scrutiny regarding exposure, etc. Perhaps for this reason, when she was selected as a model for a lingerie brand, Arin's cheerful image stood out even more. She smiled and said, "For the lingerie commercial, there were directions that we were both pursuing, so I think that's why we ended up with that outcome when the brand and Arin worked together."
Regarding a scene involving a sexual relationship that appears in the latter part of 'S-Line', she explained, "I believe it was a necessary scene within the story. We filmed it as much as possible in line with the flow of the story. Since it is a scene that comes in the latter half, the director was very considerate and discussed together to find a midpoint in the flow between Hyun-heup and Jun-seon. I hoped it would flow naturally in terms of content. There was a bit of a challenge."
The maknae of the group, Arin is momentarily putting aside her innocent girl group image to dream of expanding her spectrum as an actress by meeting new genres and characters. She conveyed her dream, saying, "Each time I work on a project, I hope my image doesn't come to mind as much as possible. I want to be remembered only as the character in the work, and I want to be an actress without limits."
