Director Kim Hyung-seok, who directed 'Our Golden Days,' revealed the directing points and behind-the-scenes stories.
KBS 2TV's new weekend drama 'Our Golden Days' (Directed by Kim Hyung-seok / Written by So Hyun-kyung / Produced by Studio Coming Soon, Studio Spring, Monster Union) is 'a family melodrama that resonates across generations about golden days every human being has, whether now, in the past, or in the future, encountered with different meanings.'
Director Kim Hyung-seok noted, "I always feel both excitement and fear before the premiere of each work," and added, "The script by writer So is profound, and the more I read it, the more new meanings I discover. My goal as a director is to properly express that depth," expressing anticipation for his second collaboration with writer So Hyun-kyung.
Director Kim highlighted 'sympathy' and 'comfort' as directing points. He said, "'Our Golden Days' deals with family and love. Although each character has their own viewpoints and voices, I hope it ultimately leads to a warm story that comes together."
In addition, he introduced various characters as key viewing points, explaining, "The work features characters representing the diverse realities of our society. They experience conflicts and clashes but eventually come to understand and heal each other.
He continued, "I expect the meticulous language and design of the writer to blend together to create tension, warmth, and emotion," and noted, "'Generations,' 'family,' and 'love' are always core keywords I keep in mind. I believe the writer shares similar thoughts about reflecting reality and capturing the spirit of the times," promising viewers deep resonance.
Meanwhile, Director Kim spoke about the casting anecdotes and the chemistry among the actors. He stated, "I first cast actor Cheon Ho-jin. His role was central, often referred to as writer So Hyun-kyung's 'father trilogy,' and he showed a deep understanding and affection for the work."
Cheon Ho-jin has previously won acting awards for his roles in KBS2 weekend dramas 'My Golden Life' and 'You Are My Glory.'
Additionally, he said, "Actors Jung Il-woo, Jeong In-sun, and Yoon Hyun-min fit their roles well, and their acting skills were excellent, so I actively suggested them," and added, "In particular, actors Jung Il-woo and Jeong In-sun voluntarily met frequently to study the script and practice together." Regarding the atmosphere on set, he said, "The consideration and harmony among the actors are very impressive. It's one of the best atmospheres I've experienced among the dramas I have directed."
Finally, Director Kim Hyung-seok expressed, "More than any other message, I hope you feel the emotion of 'love.' I wish the heart that understands each other warmly, even amid conflicts and wounds, will be conveyed to viewers through this drama. I hope that warmth can extend to another person."
KBS 2TV's new weekend drama 'Our Golden Days' is set to premiere on Aug. 9 (Saturday) at 8 p.m., following 'For Eagle Brothers.'
