Oh My Girl member and actress Arin showed her passion as an actress.
Arin met with the press on the 28th at Post Tower in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to discuss Wave's original drama 'S Line' (written and directed by Ahn Joo-young) in an interview.
'S Line' is a fantasy thriller in which a red line, known as the S Line, begins to appear between people who have had sexual relationships, revealing forbidden desires and hidden truths. The drama is based on a webtoon of the same name by popular webtoon artist Kkobabi, which has garnered a hot response, ranking first for 14 consecutive days in attracting new paid subscriptions to Wave since its first release on the 11th. It notably won the music award in the long-form competition at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival.
Having debuted with Oh My Girl and currently balancing her acting career, Arin has been recognized as an actress through dramas such as 'Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow,' 'Alchemy of Souls,' and 'Summer, Love Machine Blues.' Portraying the character 'Hyun-hup,' a high school student who can see the S Line from birth, Arin skillfully depicted the complex inner world of a character who has lived in isolation, presenting a character with depth that transcends a simple genre piece.
'Through 'S Line,' Arin shattered her image as the 'youngest member of Oh My Girl.' Arin noted that regarding her successful image transformation through the bold work, "It seems that our fans have cherished me as the youngest member a lot, so they seemed quite surprised. But fortunately, it seems that many view my first start as actress Arin positively. I'm gradually taking on challenges."
Having debuted with Oh My Girl and been active for 10 years, Arin is now stepping into a significant period as she signs a contract with a new agency as an actress. She explained, "Rather than feeling frustrated about needing to shed the group image, my biggest concern was whether I could naturally transform into a different version of myself. That concern still exists. I believe it's a significant task given to me. I am working hard to show diverse aspects of myself in the future."
Not only in 'S Line' but also through KBS2's Wednesday-Thursday drama 'My Girlfriend is a Cyborg,' Arin is showing her existing bright and lovely charms. Regarding showcasing her acting spectrum through opposing characters simultaneously, she mentioned, "Both Hyun-hup and Ji-eun contain aspects of myself. While I found joy in expressing Ji-eun's bright, honest, and lovely side, I think Hyun-hup brings out a different charm and reveals a new side of me, making both characters enjoyable to portray."
Although Arin often appears as the youngest, innocent, and lovely, she surprisingly enjoys the noir genre as well. She stated, "I find action-heavy works fun and interesting, and I really want to take on a cool and thrilling character someday after thoroughly preparing. I have a love for noir films like 'The Thieves' and 'Shinsegae,' so if a good opportunity arises through diligent preparation, I would like to challenge myself."
Arin said that digesting new characters and genres is her motivation for acting, expressing her readiness to embrace any challenge. She commented, "Even during my time with Oh My Girl, I took on various concepts, which helped a lot. I also want to see new sides of myself. So I have a lot of thoughts about wanting to take on diverse challenges. In terms of my external appearance, I would like to take on challenges that suit the work; I want to try everything, and if shaving my head is necessary, I will take that challenge as well."
