"Even if it's late, flowers bloom"... Actress Kim Geum-soon is enjoying her second act in life, or rather, her second prime.
In the KBS2 program "Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant" broadcasted on the 25th, actress Kim Geum-soon, who garnered attention with "When Life Gives You Tangerines," appeared, sharing her heartfelt stories from Brazilian home cooking to her tearful family history, touching the hearts of the viewers.
MC Boom remarked, "She is the hottest actress in her 50s in Korea. Known as the mother of Jenny from 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' Kim Geum-soon was greeted warmly."
Kim Geum-soon showcased Brazilian home cooking that day. It turned out she was a 'divorced mom' who started her married life in Brazil. She confessed, "I went to Brazil following a pansori teacher and met my ex-husband there. I lived there for 10 years." Both of her sons were born in Brazil, and she was 29 years old at that time.
With perfect Portuguese skills, she made meals with her sons, bringing smiles. However, she was, in fact, a struggling actress with a heartfelt story.
Kim Geum-soon said, "Coming up to Seoul, everything felt unfamiliar. I started acting again to raise my two kids," adding, "I wasn't a star; I was a struggling actress who took acting as a profession."
Kim Geum-soon, who had stood on stage for 15 years before marriage, began her media acting with short films. She revealed, "I circulated a profile shot at home. I thought if I could earn enough to cover the cost of side dishes with acting, that would be sufficient."
She also juggled part-time jobs at a chicken shop and a packed lunch store. She stated, "I did everything from removing chicken fat to making packed lunch side dishes," and while working part-time, she received an offer to appear in the movie "Train to Busan." Now, she stands tall as a 30-year veteran actress with over 70 works under her belt.
Her son handed her a handwritten letter, saying, "Mom always lived brightly for us without a word of complaint." The letter included the phrase, "Live a beautiful life and walk proudly... Stay strong, Geum-soon."
With tears welling in her eyes, Kim Geum-soon expressed, "I could endure because of my children. Their presence is joy and fortune," conveying her gratitude.
As the saying goes, "Even if it's late, flowers undoubtedly bloom," her life, having fought fiercely, has now become a deep source of emotion and hope for countless viewers.
