The movie 'Extreme Job' and drama 'The Winning Try' actor Song Young-kyu is facing criticism for being caught driving under the influence.
Song Young-kyu is suspected of driving about 5 km from his home in Cheoin District to Giheung District, Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, with a blood alcohol concentration at the level of license revocation (0.08% or higher) around 11 p.m. on June 19. The police were dispatched after a tip from an eyewitness and arrested him as he was committing the crime, then transferred him to the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office without detention.
Song Young-kyu is currently active in the ENA drama 'The Defects', playing the role of Pastor Yoon Se-hoon, and is set to meet viewers in the upcoming SBS drama 'The Winning Try', where he portrays Rugby Club Director General Kim Min-joong. In addition, he is also appearing in the play 'Shakespeare in Love' at the Seoul Arts Center, but has been caught in a bigger controversy for hiding his DUI incident for a month.
With the revelation of the DUI incident coming late, those involved in his projects are also feeling flustered. The 'The Defects' team noted, "We are considering editing the footage to minimize his screen time within the range that does not affect the overall flow of the story," while the 'The Winning Try' team said, "Since it is a pre-produced project that has already completed broadcasting preparations, editing may be difficult, but we are keeping the possibility of editing open for the future."
He debuted in 1994 in the children's musical 'Murtle Dosa' and has since showcased his presence as a mid-level actor in movies like 'Extreme Job', dramas like 'The Winning Try', 'Suriname', and 'Casino'. In 'Extreme Job', he played the role of the head of the drug investigation team and rival to Ryu Seung-ryong, while in 'The Winning Try', he took on the role of the rival baseball team Director General to Namkoong Min.
However, he cannot escape public criticism for maintaining his activities while concealing the DUI incident.
