Actress Lim Sae-mi showcased a variety of emotional performances through 'The Winning Try'.
The SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'The Winning Try' (written by Lim Jin-a and directed by Jang Young-seok), which premiered on the 25th, is a comedic coming-of-age sports drama featuring the unpredictable eccentric director Ju Ga-ram (played by Yoon Kye-sang) and the last-place rugby team from Hanyang High School racing toward victory in the National Sports Festival.
Lim Sae-mi played the role of Baek Ji, the shooting team's playing coach at Hanyang High School and the ex-girlfriend of Ju Ga-ram. In the first episode, Baek Ji's confusion and anger stemming from the sudden disappearance of her boyfriend Ju Ga-ram after his retirement was depicted without any prior hints. Three years later, when Baek Ji faces Ju Ga-ram, who suddenly appears before her as if nothing happened, she cannot suppress her emotions.
The inner struggle of Baek Ji, caught between the reality of not being recognized as a coach and her desire to continue as an athlete, was also convincingly portrayed. Lim Sae-mi added depth to the immersion by expressing everything from her insecure demeanor in reality to her unwavering passion, as well as the suppressed anger and emotions toward her ex-lover. In particular, her bold act of shooting a BB gun at Ju Ga-ram, who acts in a cunning manner, powerfully revealed Baek Ji's candid and unrestrained personality.
Having received praise from viewers for vividly bringing characters to life across various genres, such as the TVING original 'After School War Activities', Disney+'s 'The Worst Evil', and tvN's 'My Dearest Nemesis', Lim Sae-mi continues to deliver high-impact emotional performances through her realistic character in 'The Winning Try'. Given her notable presence since the first episode, expectations for her future endeavors are building.
Meanwhile, 'The Winning Try', featuring Lim Sae-mi, airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.
