Choi Min-sik and Son Suk-ku maintained a precarious relationship.
In episode 7 of the MBC special series 'Casino' (Disney+ Original Series | Directed and written by Kang Yoon-sung | Produced by Ark Media, C-JeS Entertainment, BA Entertainment) broadcast on the 25th, the collaboration and conflict between Cha Moo-sik (played by Choi Min-sik) and Korean desk detective Lee Seung-hoon (played by Son Suk-ku) were intertwined around the murder of a Korean tourist, heightening the tension of the drama.
Moo-sik suspects Charlie (played by Lee Seok) to be behind the incident and follows his trail. Meanwhile, the situation complicates as Kim So-jung (played by Son Eun-seo) intercepts 10 billion won that Chairman Go (played by Lee Hye-young) won at the casino and flees. Moo-sik suspects Yang Jeong-pal (played by Lee Dong-hwi), So-jung's boyfriend and closest subordinate, but changes direction when he learns about Philip's (played by Lee Hae-woo) suspicious behavior and that Philip and So-jung were in a relationship. He gives Charlie one last chance and orders him to find the money that So-jung has hidden.
However, So-jung tries to avoid Moo-sik, searches for a currency exchange in Manila, Philippines, and meets Philip there. In the vehicle, as So-jung, who has already resolved to flee, faces off with Philip, a mysterious man in a helmet appears and opens fire. The two lose their lives in the vehicle, and the money is stolen. This scene shocked viewers strongly right after the broadcast.
Meanwhile, Lee Seung-hoon, dispatched to the local area, learns that the murdered Koreans were criminals who had previously committed a financial fraud worth around 50 billion won. He also finds out through his local colleague Mark (played by Nico Antonio) that Moo-sik had been at the crime scene. Lee Seung-hoon meets Moo-sik, who seems to cooperate with the investigation by handing over major evidence like the vehicle left behind by Charlie. However, due to So-jung's betrayal and Moo-sik's ambiguous attitude, Jeong-pal starts to waver and distrust toward Moo-sik begins to sprout.
The broadcast that day recorded a nationwide household viewership rating of 3.1% (according to Nielsen Korea). In particular, the scene where So-jung searches for a currency exchange to transfer the stolen 10 billion won to Korea recorded a peak viewership rating of 4.1% per minute (in the metropolitan area), proving the viewers' immersion.
In the preview video for episode 8, which was released next, a mysterious man visiting Seung-hoon's residence at night and Jeong-pal asking Sang-gu if he can recognize the person who shot So-jung sparked curiosity about the subsequent developments. Additionally, scenes showing Moo-sik loading a firearm and implying torture after kidnapping someone contributed to delivering a sense of tension just before an explosion.
The Disney+ original series 'Casino,' presented by MBC as a special series, is a crime action piece depicting the rise and fall of the legendary figure Cha Moo-sik, who once dominated the Philippine casino scene, centered around the psychological battle with Korean detective Lee Seung-hoon who is chasing him. It has established itself as a powerhouse in weekend evening dramas while simultaneously boosting ratings and buzz.
The first season will conclude with the airing of episode 8 tonight, and season 2 will begin airing tomorrow (27th) at 10 p.m. As the 'second casino game' of Cha Moo-sik becomes more intense, attention is focused on how the truth behind the murder case and Lee Seung-hoon's investigation toward him will unfold. Episode 8 of 'Casino' will be broadcast tonight at 10 p.m. on MBC.
